Saw this on the SeaTrade Insider News. Info on Canada upgrading a number of cruise tourist sites in Eastern Canada. Nice. My wife and I have always wanted to sail up the St Lawrence and are considering it next year on the Summit.

Canada announced plans to fund major infrastructure improvements at national historic sites across Nova Scotia, and to the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The funding will go to a number of key areas visited by cruise passengers, including Halifax Citadel and the Fortress of Louisbourg. In addition, Georges Island in Halifax Harbour is set for development as a world-class attraction that is expected to become a major draw for cruise visitors. ‘This investment of over $25m in iconic tourism destinations in Nova Scotia will not only help preserve and improve these treasured places. It will also support tourism in the region and help stimulate the local economy,’ said Jim Prentice, Canada’s minister of the environment and minister responsible for Parks Canada. Canada’s Economic Action Plan sets aside $75m for improvements to visitor facilities in Canada’s national parks and national historic sites over the next two years and another $75m for the protection of national historic sites during the same period. Among the projects that will be funded is a $14m investment in the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, one of the most spectacular scenic drives in North America. The trail will be repaved in some areas and widened to accommodate cyclists and hikers. The Halifax Defense Complex will receive $6m for projects at the Halifax Citadel and Fort McNab National Historic Sites of Canada. Other sites to receive funding in Nova Scotia include Port Royal National Historic Site ($700,000) and Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site ($2m). In addition, Parks Canada will be funding a $3.5m project on Georges Island National Historic Site. The island is located in close proximity to the cruise berths at the Port of Halifax. Parks Canada said it recognizes the great potential of Georges Island to become a world-class tourism attraction, and will develop basic infrastructure such as wharf facilities, electricity and water to facilitate visitor experiences.
