Have you all seen that CNBC is doing an in-depth piece on cruising tonight at 9pm?

Here's the write up:

It's the ultimate getaway... an exclusive look inside the $30-billion cruise industry. Correspondent Peter Greenberg spends seven days aboard the Norwegian Pearl, one of the newest in Norwegian Cruise Line's fleet. The 15-story floating city is a destination of its own. It's a hotel, a shopping mall, a casino and full-service Spa - sailing the oceans of the world. And be prepared to spend on everything from oil paintings to Botox

I'll give it a glance....thanks for the heads-up! There's nothing that would disuade me from cruising (at least not this year!) But, I'm always open to learn and see more!

I am skeptical about this show already. I was just watching my local news here in Orlando and they just interviewed the host of tonights show, and he kinda made me mad. Said be prepared to pay for spa treatments (Well DUHHHHH) be prepared to pay 300.00 a pop for botox onboard (COMMMME ON who does that) and be prepared to pay to climb the rock wall ( Now I kinda jumped up on this one, does NCL have a pay rock wall????) The media is so lame.

I think any experienced cruiser will see the distorted media views.

I agree and wonder if first timers who are thinking about cruising, will now turn away from it with the distortion that I see coming on this show tonight.

Since when does NCL represent the cruise industry?

I cruised the Norwegian Pearl last year and it's a beautiful ship. I don't see how it's any less representative of the industry than any other line.

Of COURSE you can spend a fortune on a cruise --just as you can on any land vacation --but you certainly don't have to. I think my total tab for a 9 day cruise was about $350, and that included the auto-gratuities, many specialty restaurants and lots of froofy drinks. :)

I agree. I saw the same thing and his view so far seems highly distorted if not factually incorrect indicating that such things as the rock wall are paid extras. He has his own agenda in mind I think, sensationalizing everything remotely negative. How many people choose a $300 botox treatment.?..I go for the port day specials myself. I was looking forward to the show. Now I think I'll set the dVR so I can skim through it if I want.

I don't think there is anything distorted in the documentary. Remember, this is on a business channel, not a travel channel. It's still a very interesting behind the scenes look.

I am going to leave this up for now even though it is not Princes related; will be watching this tonight as well. I know some folks at CNBC and there is no "agenda" with this being on an NCL ship... so watch it for what it is - a business show..

If this turns into an NCL bash or a gripe and moan that it wasn't about Princess I will move it to Floataway or close it.. healthy debate is fine, bashing isn't.

Whoa, I didn't mean that there was any NCL agenda, pro or con, or Princess agenda, pro or con. I just meant that it appeared from seeing him on tV and giving "teases" about the show, his agenda appeared to be to hype the hidden costs and problems of taking a cruise vacation, thus giving a negative impression of cruising. In my opinion, the teases appeared to be typical media sensationalism. Some of the CNBC series like American Greed etc. are really good. I hope this one is too. I was disappointed in the teases.

Didn't mean to imply that..

Actually I may get flamed for saying it ::I dare ya'll:: :p but I like NCL... not nearly as much as Princess but more than RCI.. their rates to Europe are awesome and on that cruise, it's the destination not the ship for us.
