jaspersmycat Posted March 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Since HAL lets us bring on wine, we want to purchase some wine before we embark in Boston. We are staying at the Park Plaza Hotel. Anyone know of a grocery store or wine store with decent wine at reasonable prices either near our hotel or on the way to Black Falcon cruise Terminal? 138east Posted March 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2009 I don't know about reasonable prices - your hotel is in the very upscale Back Bay area of Boston. I did find this place which is about 3 blocks away. You are staying at a very nice hotel - the concierge should be able to help you out. Rare Got2Cruise Posted March 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2009 You can buy wine at Trader Joes. You need to go to a fancy wine store. There are several Trader Joes in the Boston area.
138east Posted March 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Massachusetts has some odd alcohol laws. Typically, you cannot buy wine or beer in a supermarket, particularly a chain supermarket like Trader Joes. I think that the chain stores can have 3 stores in the whole state that can sell wine and beer. So it's really hit or miss. I've never seen alcohol in a Trader's in Mass. If we don't get a response from someone who really knows Back Bay, then I'd wait to ask the hotel concierge.

I have personally bought wine at this Trader Joes: 1309 Beacon St Brookline, MA 02446-- don't let the Brookline address fool ya, it is right near the Back Bay. I would never post something on a message board that I don't know for sure. If I know for sure, that is I have actually been there, I post it. You can take the T there if it is too far to walk if you are interested.
138east Posted March 25, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2009 That's good to know. It must be one of the three Trader's that can sell beer and wine. It is in Coolidge Corner in Brookline, which is about 3 miles from the OP's hotel.
jaspersmycat Posted March 26, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks to all for their replies. Anyone know anything about Best Cellars on Boylston?
138east Posted March 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Sounds like it could be fun - only about 6 blocks from your hotel. And it says they have wine tastings every day. http://www.yelp.com/biz/best-cellars-boston
DiTomCruisers Posted March 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2009 I used to work in Copley Square (the John Hancock Tower), they have some good Wine Stores (liquor stores) on Boylston & Newbury Sts. You're staying in a great hotel, so the concierge will also have great suggestions.. As the others have mentioned there are some odd liquor laws in Massachusetts, just be aware... sunshine66 Posted March 27, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 27, 2009 There are a number of wine stores in the Back Bay try Boylston street and Newbury street but also ask the hotel can they help. You can not walk to Coolidge corner from back bay but can take the green line train, just watch the letter to be sure you have the correct train. I don't think going to trader joes is worth the trip, enjoy the babck bay area.
