ballroom dancing???

As part of our cruise we are hoping to practice our ballroom dancing. We are on the Coral Princess to Alaska in August. Anyone out there have any experience with dancing on board? I saw the Island Princess had advertised this but have not been able to find anything about the Coral Princess. Thanks, Terri

Most ships offer a few ballroom dance classes - very basic steps.

 

We also love to dance and spend many evenings in the Wheelhouse dancing. Once in a while, they have offered an evening of ballroom dancing in one of the venues with the orchestra playing. That is always a special treat!

 

The orchestra also usually plays before the Princess Circle Club get-together and they want people to dance - not many do.

There's only been one time where basic classes haven't been offered - apparently about 2 years ago they brought in some professionals to teach some of the cruise staff how to teach the classes, and the ship had at that time nobody trained. It was a 3 day coastal, so not a big deal.

 

They also sometimes have (not sure if they're still doing this, though) a ballroom blitz event - where couples dance before one of the shows and they award a trophy. On our 2007 Alaska cruise we participated,and since there were only 3 couples, we all got festive Princess trophies. I think it was inspired by Dancing with the Stars much as Princess Pop Star is inspired by American Idol.

 

We also do a lot of dancing in the Wheelhouse.

Thanks for the info. Is the Wheelhouse ballroom dancing or disco type dancing? What are the times of the Wheelhouse dancing? Is it before dinner times or after? Sorry for all the quesions! This is only our second cruise. The other was years ago and awful so we have been hesitant to do another. Hoping the last experience is not repeated. terri

You won't find much disco dancing in the Wheelhouse. That kind of music is usually reserved for Club Fusion or Skywalkers. There is usually a combo playing light jazz and ballroom dancin' music in the Wheelhouse. It generally starts around the time of first seating. Enjoy!

 

Oh, and as for the classes, alot will have to do with the energy and skill of the ACD who is giving the classes. :)
