How Many Days in AUckland?

We are planning some post cruise time in Auckland and I am wondering how many days to plan. What are the attractions in and around Auckland. We are considering a day trip to the Bay of Islands. Karen

If you drive, you might like to consider staying in the Bay of Islands, then doing a day drive north, as well as the Coramandels (?).

 

For Auckland, we like the day trip by ferry to Waiheke Island, which has beautiful walks. However, you can stay on the island as well.

There is lots to do in North Island New Zealand, as the Kiwis will no doubt tell you.

There are a number of attractions in and around Auckland. If you want to meet the people who make the 'heart of New Zealand' I suggest getting out of Auckland. A day trip from Auckland to the Bay of Islands would be a long day and involve about three hours driving each way (depending on traffic & whereabouts in Auckland you stay). Therefore I would suggest an overnight stay to make the most of your stay in the Bay of Islands. Similarly popular tourist attractions south of Auckland such as Waitomo and Rotorua {the North Island's 'must see'} take about two and a half hours to get there, and while Waitomo can be done on a day trip from Auckland I would suggest at least an overnight stay, preferably two, in Rotorua to meet the people, experience the area and see the heartland.
