davispigeon Posted December 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Since I usually base meal tips on the cost of the meal, I am at a loss for knowing what to tip the room service on board. Do I base it per plate? Just give them a couple of bucks? What if I order a little? Or a lot? Any suggestions would be very helpful! I don't want to stiff anyone! By the way, do the room service waiters also work in the dining rooms? Thanks
pcbeck Posted December 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Don't know if I was right or wrong but I did $2 for breakfast for my wife and I and $4 when my two duaghters joined us for breakfast.
ducklite Posted December 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2004 We tipped $5 for breakfast for the three of us, and $2 anytime we ordered a small snack. Based it on what the tip would avreage out to at a restaurant at home for somehting similar. Anne

davispigeon Posted December 1, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted December 1, 2004 Thanks for the responses...so does about $2 pp for room service sound right?
FinelyCruising Posted December 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2004 I think it is an appropriate amount that does not leave either party feeling untoward over.
TERRY223 Posted December 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 2, 2004 We always tip at least $5.00 pp for room service, usually for breakfast. I feel that if they have to come all the way up from the galley to bring my wife and I something, and in the process have to see the little lady before she has "put on her face & done her hair"- and I in bathrobe & unshaven----- then they deserve something more than I would normaly leave at a restuarant. hstrybuf Posted December 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 2, 2004 We usually don't order more than coffee, juice and danish for breakfast. We tip $2.
lvcruiser Posted December 2, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 2, 2004 $2 for breakfast for two people seems enough to me and that's what we tipped on our last cruise on several mornings for room service. They may be walking a bit of a distance, depending upon where your cabin is located, but they are only making one trip and are not checking back with you later about the food like a land based food server would. I certainly would not equate tipping a regular food server with room service.
