Hi

Could someone explain what the S&S card is? Why is it said that you need $200 on it? When I booked our cruise I was never told about anything like this. Just dont want to show up and be totally missled.

Thanks

The on board system is "cashless" - meaning that you will use you Sign and Sail card for all on board purchases. All things are charged to your account and you must have a credit card - or cash on the account to cover the purchases.

The inital amount authorized by your credit card - or applied in cash is usually 200.00 per person.

The S&S card is your Sail and Sign Card. It serves as your room key, and is also used for all purchases onboard. You can either link it to a credit card, or put a cash deposit on it. All transactions onboard (with the exception of the casino and bingo cards) are cashless. If you put cash on it, your account must be settled prior to disembarking. If it is linked to a credit card, the charges will appear on the card after the cruise. Hope this helps.

It is a card set up with either cash, or with your credit card that all of your onboard expenses will be applied to. Such as the automatic tips, and excursions, drinks, supper club, spa, etc. At the end of the cruise you will get a bill stating all of the charges to this card.

It also doubles as a way to keep track of whom is on or off the ship. It will get scanned everytime you leave the ship at your ports of call.

Also be aware you will be charged 10.00 per day, per person for tips to the service staff, since you didn't know what s&s is that could have surprised you too.

We personally love the card, no worries about cash or credit cards onboard, although I tend to shop too much, thats my own fault!!!

Have a great time!!!

Carnival recently revamped their card designs...

the old first-timer 'Bluey' cards used to look like this..

but by the time you cruise,

your 'new design' S&S card might look like the topmost blue one of these three below

I've used cash every time instead of credit card and have never had to put a minimum of $200.00 on it. Also there are others who have said they will not let you purchase if you use cash and your acct. is low on funds. Also not true, in my experiences. We on a number of occasions have charged more on it than what was in our acct. and never got a call from pursers desk. We just get a bill on the last night that we have to settle up before we leave. Obviously I try to keep track of it and if we are getting low we put more money in, but have gone over twice and settled up with cash. Maybe we have been the exception to the rule for some reason, but do believe you can put any amount on it with cash.
