Chair hogs: Fact or fiction?

Tapi

I know that the pool chair hog topic has been beaten to death over and over on these boards, but I came across this little video this morning which shows the chair hogs in action.

Watching it made me want to grab a trash can and just throw all those towels and bags in it! :D

:) Thank you. Clip should be required for viewing, pre-cruise but....

The HOGS would do it anyway:eek: Grateful for the medicinal purposes

of demon rum which helps me get along with everyone who isn't smart

enough to share my point of view;) Of course, I can tell you are a

highly intelligent fellow:) keep cruisin

They should make you SIGN something stating that you understand the "no reserving deck chairs" concept!!!!! And, where's the pool attendant? All of those items should be picked up and put into a "lost and found" box!

Yeah, I wish Carnival would enforce their own rules. If they did, there would be fewer inconsiderate jerks. Sure there will still be some hogs around, but if Carnival just did a "clean sweep," there would be a lot less.

I say either enforce the rule or eliminate the rule altogether. Don't just put up a sign and then look the other way. This FORCES the guests who abide by the rules to be confrontational or just SOL.

What kills me most are the member reviews here on CC where the reviewer actually WRITES "We were warned about chair hogs, so we set our alarm for 6:00am, then went up to the Lido deck to reserve chairs for ourselves and our travelling companions who like to sleep late."

TOTALLY AGREE!!

Why would you want to be the one saving chairs for your friends...I hate that feeling of people staring you down. Its like when you are with a large party of people at a restaurant, but your the first to arrive and you are sitting at a table of 8 and everyone is late. Then the people who are waiting for a table are staring at you. I hate that.

If your friends want a chair, tell them to get their butts up our of bed and then plop it in a chair.

Personally, I hate those chairs. I feel like an old lady trying to get in and out of them.

The chair hogs on our cruise a couple of weeks ago were the worst I've ever seen. Not only could you not get a chair anywhere near the pool itself, but you couldn't find a chair anywhere. We finally wound up at the very front of the ship, away from all of the drink servers (not good) in the gale force winds. And that was only after we found a stack of chairs still strapped together and unstrapped them ourselves.

I overheard one woman saying that she got up at 5:30 am to walk around the ship and most of the chairs by the main pool area were already taken. Ridiculous.

It was the only real negative of our cruise, and it was a big negative for me.

There are rules against bringing booze onboard the ship too but many people here think thats ok' date=' but let one guy put a magazine on a chair before noon......I guess we can pick and choose the rules we want to follow. :D[/quote']

Does my bringing booze onboard take away from your fun, or use of the ship?

It could if one cannot control himself.

The point is, RULES ARE RULES.

If a person chooses to break the rule of not bringing booze onboard then I can choose to throw a magazine on a chair and walk away.

**I do not actually use the deck chairs as I have no patience or desire to sit in the sun. I make use of the regular table chairs.**

I agree - RULES ARE RULES. But if you choose to break the rule of not saving chairs, can I then break the rule of not stealing said chair-saving item or the rule of not throwing you overboard? :D (Not you personally, but following this theoretical scenario.)

Again, I think Carnival should enforce their own rules or elminate them. Having a rule without enforcing it is just plain pointless and gives the advantage to the chair hogs.

Well that would be breaking a different rule...

You certainly can, and I can take that magazine, place it on the ground, or on a table and make myself at home on "your chair".

Your example is silly. "RULES ARE RULES" is childish and narrow minded.

If that person jaywalks, then I can drive on the sidewalk sort of thing...

Be nice. You can disagree without being ugly. :)

Allow chair hogs to place a "marker" with a time limit on the chair. At the same place as the towels, have chair back covers with the carnival logo, an unique number and the word reserved.

A person wanting to reserve a chair (to go to the bathroom, find their companions, get lunch to bring back...) would get the cover, and it would be clear that it is only good for 30 mins. After 30 mins, and the seat cover has not been returned, the staff could remove the seat cover.

The Chair Hog now knows his / her time limit AND chairs become available.

...here we go again... :D

This is simple people! The guy could have used his time much more productively by doing what I do:

1. I get up around 7 or so to exercise.

2. I grab a piece of fruit and head back to my room to wake up my hubby.

3. We go up on deck and grab the two chairs that we want that don't have bodies in them.

4. If those two desired chairs have magazines, one/two shoes, a towel, a bag,etc...we pick it up, hand it to the nearest ship rep (whoever that happens to be, from the CD to the lido waiter), and explain that it must have been lost or left, because it was sitting in an empty chair.

5. Walk back to our chairs and sit down and enjoy our vacation.

We've only been approached one time and we've done this...gosh, I don't know, 40 times? When the chair hog slinked up and wondered if anyone had seen their belongings we simply replied that he would probably be better off checking with lost and found. Maybe they'd seen something?

And if anyone did pitch their big, stupid fit, then I'd have quite a bit to say to the inconsiderate smuck who thinks the pool chairs are "theirs". He'd be confused, but we wouldn't have a moments hesitation in clearing them up. We paid for this vacation too and whether anyone likes it or not, if you leave your things in an empty chair for a couple of hours and expect to come back to "your" chair, you deserve to have your stuff thrown overboard. Be grateful that I'm kind enough to place it in the lost and found where you can still retrieve it.

And anyone who is skewed enough to believe that every person who's ever broken any rule shouldn't say anything to anyone who's currently breaking one, then you deserve to climb your fanny to the highest chair and be stuck there all day or whatever you perceive to be a rude inconvenience. It's a straw man argument and makes no sense. Try a new tune. It implies that perfection is required to have a confrontation or to instill the rules. Since that isn't possible, then I guess, based on your rediculous argument, that no one on the planet has any right to instill or defend rules and regulations. Silly, silly, defense....
