manasvi10 Posted April 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2009 Hi, We are planning to do car rental in ohau precruise and postcruise 1) Rent a car from HNL airport on Friday eve and drop off the car close to the pier on saturday before boarding POA. Need shuttle to the pier after drop off. Thrifty rental rate is $28 (due to hawaiidiscountrental.com) and one way drop off fee is $30 total is more than 76$ Hertz is $77 from airport to waikiki marriot Can anybody help me with it? Which companies have free shuttles to the pier? We want to rent it for PH visit on Saturday morning + I was hoping it will cover the cost from hnl to waikiki transport and hotel to pier transport.. 2) Postcruise: Rent a car on following saturday after disembarking from a location close to pier (again free shuttle preferred) and after 3 days drop off the car to the hnl before flying out...We need a car because we are planning to do north shore adventures (shark encounter, glider ride and sky diving etc)
QueenofEverything Posted April 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2009 We are renting from Thrifty in June. They have a shuttle from their airport location. I called this morning and verified. If you return the car to the airport, you save the $30 drop off fee and they will shuttle you back to the pier.
manasvi10 Posted April 8, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted April 8, 2009 QueenOfEverything, Thanks a lot. That really helps. should I use some different location code for cruise ship transport even if renting from airport location in HNL? Plus I want to apologize for repeated question. Just after posting I saw a similar post on page 22 of this forum (yes I am still reading ..reading) where beachchick gave amazing info ..Just to revive it, I am pasting it here ... Thanks a lot beachchick.............. Aloha. This is a common subject, so I did a quick search for "honolulu car rent" and got 10 pages of threads, some of which deal specifically with your question. Here are several to get you started: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showt...olulu+car+rent Hope that gives you some good information. beachchick
QueenofEverything Posted April 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 8, 2009 manas - I don't think you need to put down anything different. I had read on CC that the airport had a shuttle for Thrifty, but I called them this morning just to be sure! They did not say that anything had to be reserved differently. I think for your post cruise pickup you will just have to call them. Don't apologize for asking the same questions, those of us addicted to CC love seeing answers to our questions from a variety of people! Happy Sailing! Nancyquilts Posted April 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Last month we rented a car from Thrifty - a shuttle picked us up at the pier and returned us there at the end of the day. Painless. :)
cruiseman40 Posted April 10, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2009 manasvi10: If you rent the car from Thrifty's car rental on Seaside Ave near International Market Place and drop off the car, Thrifty's shuttle can drop you off at the Pier. We rented 2 cars and when it was time to dropped off the car, all of us got dropped off past the Security gates and right next to loading dock right near the Bus loading zone at the Pier(with our luggages). It was awesome transportation. I also used the same webite you mentioned. Giantfan13 Posted April 10, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 10, 2009 I don't know if anything has changed, as it's been 2 1/2 years since we were there, but we had almost an entire day post crusie, and we wanted to rent a car for a few hours. We used Thrifty, and as soon as we disembarked, we called Thrifty and they sent a shuttle to get us and bring us to the downtown location. We precifically asked if we can drop the car at their airport location, and they said YES> We used the car for about 5 hours, and then returned it to the airpost location, where they shuttled us over to our terminal. There was no $30 extra charge. Again, maybe things have changed, but we were told as long as we were in the same city, there would be no extra charge.
