Portage Pass Trail

Has anyone attempted this?

 

Our cruise doesn't leave Whittier until 9:30pm so my sister and I are thinking about trying this hike. I know the trailhead is somewhere by the tunnel entrance but I don't know exactly where.

Nice hike, at least from Whittier to the top of the trail. After that down to the lake is a lot of bushwacking though the forest service is supposedly making this portion a more formal trail.

 

As you come out of the tunnel into Whittier, first right is toward the trailhead (short gravel road). Not a far walk from the cruise ship terminal but on the "other" side of the road from where the cruise ship docks. A good way to spend the afternoon. If you are there on a Sunday, there is a ranger-led hike at 1pm from the trailhead.
