uktraveller Posted April 23, 2009 #26 Share Posted April 23, 2009 It's a small world... many many years ago I lived in Long Ashton. I was a weekend Mod; I had a Lambretta, and used to drive out to Weston & sometimes Clevedon on Sundays. Small world indeed. My youngest son has many friends in Long Ashton, met through school in Backwell. There are still plenty of people driving down to Weston on nice weekend days..but not seen many recently on Lambrettas!!:D
LibraLass41 Posted April 23, 2009 #27 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Have you seen the WSM big wheel yet? Wonder how much the tickets are?
upwarduk Posted April 23, 2009 #28 Share Posted April 23, 2009 IMO Artemis is old & faded. So far she is the only P&O ship that we have been on. We selected her because she is child free. And for the same reason our next P&O cruise is on Arcadia. I am hoping that the average age on Arcadia is lower than it was on Artemis! It was difficult getting into a lift at times( especially at first dinner sitting) as they were filled by wheel chairs.
uktraveller Posted April 24, 2009 #29 Share Posted April 24, 2009 Have you seen the WSM big wheel yet? Wonder how much the tickets are? No, haven't been down yet..but plan to before the summer rush begins. On a nice day the views should be really good.
PJ18 Posted April 25, 2009 #30 Share Posted April 25, 2009 I went as a guest with a friend on a Princess ship for the day and had a great time. How do get an invite to do this ??! thanks PJ
fastforward Posted April 25, 2009 #31 Share Posted April 25, 2009 [/b] Sorry that won't work. It is by INVITE ONLY! When I got mine, people asked me for contact phone numbers which I happily gave them and they were told NO SORRY, strictly invite only.... I don't know why I got mine, I think they thought I was a cruise virgin! As they asked if I would consider booking a cruise when I was onboard Artemis, and the literature sent and given to me at the time was all promoted towards a newbie cruising for the 1st time! OOPS. After this years cruises on Oriana and Oceana I will have sailed on all the fleet , so was pleased to have seen Artemis, I think I got the invite as I re-registered on the pando cruise chat site as I had trouble logging in, and they must of picked me up from there as a newbie. Hi PJ18, See the above post and post 17.
honeymooner2009 Posted April 27, 2009 #32 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Hi could you tell me if you asked for the invite or was it just pot luck ? ,i`m asking as,although i`ve cruised once before and loved it, i`m having a job trying to convince my parents ,who are both nearly 80 yrs old, just how much they would love a cruise,it`s first time i`ve heard of a "ship invitation day" and me thinks this may be an idea to show my folks around
LibraLass41 Posted April 27, 2009 #33 Share Posted April 27, 2009 As mentioned previously you could ask a Travel Agent if they could get you a ships visit, they get sent some invites - especially cruise specialists, but the 'invites' frompando direct are sent out by marketing and they choose who to send too. fastforward Posted April 27, 2009 #34 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Sorry to break the news Honeymooner, as regards a ships visit you have two chances Slim and None, not unless you have a relative who's a Travel Agent.
uktraveller Posted April 29, 2009 #35 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Have you seen the WSM big wheel yet? Wonder how much the tickets are? I was just in Weston today, so I had a look at the wheel and prices. It's £5 per adult or £12 for a family ticket (2+2). Didn't ride today 'tho so can't comment on how good it is but it did say it lasts about 10 mins.

It was the first time has left the UK apart from a day trip to France. He absolutely loved it and could talk of nothing else for months. He was so smitten with cruising that he has treated me to his second cruise on the Artermis in August for 4 nights!!! The mini cruises are great as an introduction to cruising. jenny wren Posted May 21, 2009 #40 Share Posted May 21, 2009 We got our invitation after going to a promotional evening at a local hotel...I think we paid £25 to go on Artemis but we had it deducted from a cruise we booked with P and O the following year. A week or so after our day/lunch we had a letter saying that if we booked a cruise the cost of our day out would be deducted and it was, even though we booked through a travel agent. Taffygirl Posted May 22, 2009 #42 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Hi, through cruiseclub.co.uk I have recieved 2 offers in the last few weeks for ships visits. One for Celebrity Equinox overnight (food and drinks included) for £50-00 per person, and the other I recieved today is for a Thompson ship that will be docked in Newcastle (can't remember date)--this one is a tour and lunch. I do not fancy the Thompson ships but would have liked to have taken up the offer for Celebrity-unfortunately I would have only just got back from land/cruise holiday that entails a lot of driving and could'nt face another drive of hundreds of miles just for 1 night . Hope this helps. Taffygirl
LibraLass41 Posted May 22, 2009 #43 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Thats interesting, I think you have to live reasonably close (Within 2-3 hrs of Southampton to make in viable) but it is a great day.
