Wennfred Posted April 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2009 How much cash should I take with me for the 7 day carribean cruise (Conquest) leaving room Galveston? I start with 800.00 cash, mixed in smaller bills to tip. Fred
Rare starstruck05 Posted April 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2009 It really depends on you. How much do you plan to buy? No one can really tell you what to expect to spend because everyone has different spending habits. I personally spent less than $10 per port on my last two cruises because I don't buy anything but shot glasses and key chains. But my mom spends more because she buys statues, clothes souviners for friends and co workers. I say she would spend about $50 - $75 per port for things like that. Then you facter if your going to eat at the port or go back on the ship to eat. If you need a taxi or not. Its alot of things to consider.

FlaKrznNubie Posted April 25, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2009 Better to take too much, than too little and have to hit the ATM.... Good thing there is a safe in the cabin.

BlueJacketsFan1 Posted April 25, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2009 It would greatly depend on want you plan on doing on and off the ship. Do you plan on doing shore excursion on the islands? Do you drink or like to gamble? I would say no less than $100 per day. My wife and I on our first cruise spent about $900 just on the ship. Second and third cruise were closer to $2000 - $2500 on the ship. It better to have extra than not enough.
RITTER19 Posted April 25, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2009 I always take 100 per day plus 100 per port. So for a seven day with 3 stops = 1,000.00 But it depends on how much you drink, gamble, shop, etc. I drink pretty heavy on the ship and I always have enough money with my figures. bonnie&clydecruzers Posted April 25, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2009 I took $1500 Cash on our last 7 day cruise for 2 people. It was just right cause I brought home a little bit of it, but I did not want to get stuck with having to go to the ATM.

LoriTX Posted April 25, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 25, 2009 We have $500 for extra ship expenses on the 'sail and sign' card and whatever we spend in the ports. We pre paid our shore excursions and parking. But we dont drink alot and dont buy EVERY photo that we see!! That is where it will add up the fastest!!! A&Jfamily Posted April 25, 2009 #14 Share Posted April 25, 2009 Wow! All I can say is there are some big spenders on this board. :p We travel with 2 kids and sometimes my mom. I don't tend to buy anything much in the ports...and depending on where I am going, I will make my purchases with Visa whenever possible. (gotta love that purchase protection). I don't think I have used more than $300 cash - mostly for tipping and small purchases off the ship on any 7 day trip we have taken - but then again, we have done a lot of our excursions through CCL so it just went on S&S. This time we are not booking through CCL and I will figure the cash I need to pay for the shore excursions and add $300 for miscellaneous.

A lot of the decision depends on how comfortable you are using your credit cards off the ship, whether you pay your S&S bill with a credit card, or with cash, whether your gratuities are prepaid, and whether or not your excursions are prepaid. We usually bring about $300 for a week plus anything that we plan on spending in the casino, and probably end up bringing home over $100 of it. Just remember that when you are in the US it is save to use your debit card, whihc reduces the amount of cash you need to carry, and US cabs normally take credit and debit cards too. Casino Player Posted April 26, 2009 #16 Share Posted April 26, 2009 How much cash should I take with me for the 7 day carribean cruise (Conquest) leaving room Galveston? That is a very personal question and there is no one answer for everyone. Make sure you have enough for personal out of pocket expernses. Money to use in the Casino and/or if you are washing laundry onboard. Also, money for tips. Money you will want to spend at some of the ports-of-call. manhar Posted May 1, 2009 Author #17 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks for your replies folks. Sorry I'm late to respond....was out of station. Its just the two of us cruising. I reckon most of the on-board expenses will be on the S&S card including booze. Apart from tips and minor purchases at ports, what else would carry-on cash be required for during the cruise? Would $100 per day would suffice?
5FamilyPlusKitty Posted May 1, 2009 #18 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Goodness! I was thinking about 250 dollars in cash! LOL that is IT. What do I need cash for, I can do my sign and whatever for drinks and stuff, right? I'm bugeting 250 for that as well (125 each) we are not BIG drinkers but we'd like to have 2 or 3 drinks each day each. 1000 dollars! 2500 Dollars?????????? The cruise only cost 530 dollars! 5FamilyPlusKitty Posted May 1, 2009 #19 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Don't they add in the tip to your bill if you order a drink, even on your sign card thingy? I read they add it into your bill, so would you ever hand them cash?
RICKAR Posted May 1, 2009 #20 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Take whatever amount you want. Pre-pay for your gratuties and any excursions that you are planning to do. Then you will only need cash for shopping in the ports and any drink that you consume on the cruise. We are taking a 7 day Western Caribbean in June and there is 3 of us. Putting the minimum on our S&S card and taking about $1,000 for spending. Excursions are already paid for and it is too late to pay for the gradtuties on our end, but thats OK. DD has been collecting any and all loose change in the house to cash in for her spending money. I think she has already collected $150.00. I purchased a GC for $50.00 to apply to her S&S account. midnightblue Posted May 2, 2009 #22 Share Posted May 2, 2009 I may be wrong about this, but I believe that you can get cash off your sign and sail card account in the Casino if you start running out. At the slot machines you enter your card and select how much money you want to gamble with. Then you cash out at the cashiers desk and they give you what is left in cash. So if you entered $200. and only gambled $10. you can get back the $190 in cash. Your sign and sail bill can be a real shocker at the end of the week. Counting shore tours and pictures and drinks my sign and sail was $1800. 2 weeks ago on the Splendor. I could have been checking my bill on the TV but saved the Surprise for the end. It was a surprise ! ! ! Every where else in the world that pictures are taken of my wife and I we look terrible. How the cruise ships manage to make us look good is beyond me. I guess our fun and happy shows through on the cruises, but we always spend way too much on pictures on cruises.
poobears Posted May 2, 2009 #23 Share Posted May 2, 2009 We prepay excursions and tips. Last year on a 4 day we spent right at $300 and that was in the casino and bingo, we don't drink. This time we are taking a 5 day and prepaid tips and excursions + $1,000 OBC. Then we have $60 thanks to price drops adjustments. We'll take about $1,000 cash with us. But that will pay for things on the way down adn back too, I doubt we spend more than a couple bucks in port. I figure we will bring a lot back with us and it will go towards next years cruise. I would rather take too much and not have to think about $$ all week, then too little and have to budget all week.
Ron_L Posted May 2, 2009 #24 Share Posted May 2, 2009 Make a list of those things that require cash (taxis, tips, etc.) for each port and then add in what you expect to spend for excursions, shopping, etc. We left our S&S on my United credit card but we used cash for everything in the ports. We brought $800 in cash and came home with about $200. We had two independent excursions that I apid for out of that cash, the rest was food, drinks, souvenirs and tips. pkw1966 Posted May 3, 2009 #25 Share Posted May 3, 2009 I try to make a list of all anticipated expenses. I also try to pre-pay as much as possible including tips, excursions, etc. I also try to purchase fun ship dollars and have those applied as OBC before we cruise. If I have money left over, they give me a check for the remaining balance.
