Laurab23 Posted May 1, 2009 #502 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Man, I am so bummed that I wasn't on this cruise. I would have LOVED to spend day after day in that Thalasso pool just knowing it was chilly outside!!! The clear glass above you. If it was foggy would have made it even better..... I fell in love with that Thalasso pool. (and plan a repeat lovefest come December on the Dream in our Spa Cabin!!!! Can't wait to try it out on the Dream in November. MinnesotaCruiser423 Posted May 1, 2009 #504 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hey Fred, I am sure I am a minority here but I sail this Sunday and I am curious what the cigarrette prices are when you are sailing the USA coast. If you have time could you check what a carton of camels or marlboros is going for. I know it is an odd request but ir would really be helpful to me and my wife. I have followed all your posts and look forward to them each day :) Matt

CWelsh54 Posted May 1, 2009 #507 Share Posted May 1, 2009 I was on the phone for two hours with carnival and never got to speak to anyone. I wanted to rebook for a warmer port but they said no but I could speak to a supervisor but no one came to the phone. Once I get the news that they are changing ports the cruise I want will be sold out. I know this is no ones fault but I think they would try to work with us too. Cindy Try to be patient, you are a month away yet. Can you imagine how many thousands are just days away from making a decision. Your cruise may not even be affected. Host Mick Posted May 1, 2009 #512 Share Posted May 1, 2009 ... Ok guys, here is the deal when it comes to the Guest Talent show, I was there for the Audition, they pretty much said, NO comedians, so that leaves me out, NO Tap dancing, a few people got up and walked off, a nice guy that is a professional dancer asked if he can use his IPOD and he was told NO, due to copy right laws bla bla bla, so he walked out. Also this is the Kicker, NO Musical Instruments from the band or crew can be used, another set of people walked away. ... Fred So nobody brought their musical instruments aboard I can see but why would anyone bring tap shoes on a cruise?
sparkscruiser Posted May 1, 2009 #513 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks for all the information.... Roy, Good for you! The Panamaniacs are pretty smart, aren't we? Wish we could take advantage of these great deals. Lemonade Cruisers, have a great time in SF tomorrow. Hope it doesn't rain on your parade. tedjazz Posted May 1, 2009 #516 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Most likely total. Saw some really good deals fly through my e-mail today. Call Carnival or your TA for the latest. Keep in mind he also used a Military Discount but the price shouldn't be too far off. Hold out for another day or two and they'll be paying YOU to get on the ship. ;)
AutumnColors Posted May 1, 2009 #517 Share Posted May 1, 2009 How far is Chinatown from where the ships dock? Is it walkable or can you easily get a bus there? Almost every block in San Francisco is covered by public transportation like cable cars, trolleys, buses and BART. And if I remember right, it is quite reasonably priced :D. njoyndride Posted May 1, 2009 #518 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Just watched the SF 10pm news, weather forecast is showery off and on in the morning with significant rain starting in the afternoon. Temp in the mid 50's. FYI - Jackets are quite a bit cheaper in Fisherman's Wharf away from Pier 39. Pier 39 does have a great store for sports related gear...so if you were looking for a nice collegiate, mlb or nfl jacket or sweatshirt this is the place. Of course they carry alot of local teams. Carnival AZIPOD Posted May 1, 2009 #520 Share Posted May 1, 2009 How far is Chinatown from where the ships dock? Is it walkable or can you easily get a bus there? The ship docks at Pier 35 or Pier 27, which is right next to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf. If you never been to SF the ship will dock right where you want to be. It's all action in that area. If you want to go to Chinatown, you can do it with a 30 minute walk (nice walk). However, it's going to rain so you want to flag down a Cab -- there will be plenty in both areas. skidrue Posted May 1, 2009 #521 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hey Fred, we are the couple that kept bumping into to you through out the 4 days. We are officially LIVE from home!!!!!!For you who wonder why we chose to leave early it was quite simple. Warmth!!!!! SF is only 4 hours for us to drive to. If I wanted cold Iwould have stayed home. I realize many folks do not grasp that California, at least parts of the North East get 1-15 feet of snow. It's been a long 6 months of snow and my husband and I were looking forward to a little sun. I completely understand canceling the ports. Out of our control, like hurricane's. What was is Carnivals control (opinion only) was the option to continue South and stay in the warmer climate. One complete day of sun, then to return North seemed ludicrous. We are also not much for sea days and prefer to be on shore enjoying the different cultures. I did not blame anyone on the ship and continued to be polite to the crew. The gal at the pursers desk commented that I had been her only smile of the day. I left the tips as well and gave our room steward an additional $20. For you who stayed on board have fun, for me I had visions of the movie "The Shining" and I am glad to be home:D
Wennfred Posted May 1, 2009 Author #522 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Another fun night, Formal or Elegant night once again and everyone was dressed nicely. I went out on a limb and finally tried the Snails, believe it or not, they tasted and looked just like Mushrooms. I also had the Corn Chowder, always a favorite and then the Chatubriand (sp) steak dinner. Great Dinner and then a great Vroom show. The show has been redone so it was totally new. We had a nice time. Also finished off the night with a movie caled Slumdog Millionaire, that was a pretty good movie. Currently outdoors is COLD !!! Breakfast in the morning around 9am and then we should be under the Golden Gate Bridge around 1pm. We will have a new Singer tomorrow night and a new comedian, its one show only starting at 10pm. Will get the price on the carton of Cigs tomorrow. See ya in the morning. Fred

Wennfred Posted May 1, 2009 Author #524 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Skidrue, Thanks for posting and Im glad you made it home safely, I remember you guys as we sat by the main lobby a few times. There were close to 600 passenger that got off in Long Beach today, the 6pm Dining room had alot of empty tables but the 8:30pm show was packed. We sat way up on top. The casino was full of people and all of the decks were full of people enjoying the last minutes of beautiful southern cal sun while in Long Beach. I am sure we are going to be knee deep in rain tomorrow according what people are posting about the weather. Hope there will be a few peeks of the sun for us for a few hours while there in San Fran. Take a look at one of Host Randy's future Cruise Critic Dream Group cruises out of Orlando, I will be looking at those soon. Nice meeting you guys....Take care.
