Ret,

Thanks for the pix...was the sea rough going from Long Beach to SF?

It was a little rolly but not so bad that it was bothersome, made good sleeping conditions for me anyway.

Fred.

If you are still reading these posts I want to take this oppurtunity to thank you for your daily posts. When I got across the border to Canada I listened to my voice messages and my brother left me a message stating he knew we never went to Mexico and that we had gone to SF.

He had found Cruise Critic (I had talked about it enough) he started to read your posts, he then went back and read everything and was able to give me info I wasnt even aware of.

I am sorry I have never met you and I do believe you were in the room at the meet and greet party on Saturday. I did not get to know many people from CC on this cruise and not sure why.

I do agree with you on how terrible some people were to the staff such a sense of entitlement is quite scary and sad .\

Anyways did want to say Hey and of course thank you.

Happy sailings in the future

Hi peeps,

sailed into SF today, fog kinda cleared up had a nice view of the GG bridge. Got off the ship about 2:30 walked down to fisherman's wharf did a little shopping, stopped and had a beer and clam chowder in a bread bowl at the fog harbor fish house yummy! walked back to the ship at 5:00 got cleaned up and changed for dinner in the Black pearl dining room.

for dinner had the jerked pork loin, enjoyed it very much even though I wasn't very hungry. here's some pics

Looks like you had a great day in San Fran, no rain?

Tottsmom,

I am sure you have gotten enough negative feedback, this is not at all about your decision. No one can decide what is a fun and enjoyable vacation but you and your husband. But, I would encourage you to not count cruising out because of one bad experience. There are some great itineraries that have a port day every day, such as a Southern Caribbean, out of San Juan. Just be wise about hurricane season, and I think it might be just what you would enjoy. Also, think about one of the many Cruise Critic group cruises, we always go with a huge group from on here, many have become friends long before we sail and go together every year. There is a wide range of ages, personality types, but mainly, we all like to have fun! You can do as much or as little with the group, some like to do excursions as a big group and charter a boat for a day, others do small scuba groups, etc., the possibilities are endless. Please don't give up on cruising, this was an unexpected event that gave many a bad taste of cruising, with the right cruise, you may fall in love with it, as many folks here have. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy to the fullest!

Thanks Judy,

You are among the many people who have said the same thing to us. At this moment in time it is hard to imagine us going on another cruise, BUT I try to keep an open mind about things and will not TOTALLY discount cruising. Wish I had met some people like you before this all started.

God Bless

Tottsmom

I think you are still missing the point, Mexico has a Killer Virus, more then 150 people are now dead in Mexico, Carnval Head Quarters out of Miami had no choice to make that move. There were only going with what the CDC has posted. I prefer to be healthy and still alive. We can always go back to mexico another. One poor lady off a cruise ship, possibly Elation out of San Diego is now sick with the Swine Flu.

So when you say, Carnival does not Care? Thats a bunch of BS, They do care about me and my family. They made the right choice.

I will be sending Carnival a letter thanking them for keeping me, my family and the whole crew safe from this Swine Flu.

Fred

Dear Fred,

I am glad you had a great time and made the best of it. We also made the best of it. I am afraid the H1N1 virus is a mute point, as there were no reported cases of it in any of the scheduled ports, but several in SF and LB. I do not have a grievance with Carnival about changing ports, just their choice of alternates AND the lack of communication.

Wow.

How would you have reacted if Carnival had made the scheduled port calls and *YOU* contracted H1N1 flu? Let me guess, you'd be here posting in a thread how Carnival does not care and endangered your life. Seems to me that Carnival was in a no-win situation in your world.

I'm just sayin...

WOW, I did not ATTACK you or your character so why slam me. People has wondered why some of us left. I stated why I left. And if CARNIVAL really cared the way you say they do, then we and others we know would have been allowed to change the dates of the cruise BEFORE boarding as we did ASK if the flu was going to affect the cruise. We were told NO! and if we wanted to change we would forefit the price of the cruise.

Well yesterday (tue) was a sea day and we didn't do much during the day just spent a relaxing day napping. In the evening we decked out in our formal duds and went to the Captains cocktail party, sat around and had a few drinks and people watched. Went to the dining room, we are the only 2 at a table for 10, and our wait staff are very attentive! we both had the lobster and shrimp combo very good, I must say, perfectly prepared.

After dinner went to the show in the spectacular spectacular. the captain and his managment staff were introduced, mostly Italians which is typical. the show was called "The Beat" featuring the dynamic vocals of Ling Ling & Kevin Jayroe and the Carnival Splendor dancers. nice show ,we stayed till the end witch we usually don't do often. After the show I went and donated to tha casino but my wife came out a little ahead so it makes us about even steven.

then off to bed to be gently rocked to sleep.

We have not been on a Carnival cruise for 2 years and will be on the Splendor in 11 days. Has the dress code changed? Are blue jeans allowed now? DS, age 24 will be on this cruise so am really asking for him. Thanks for any info you can provide.

We were curious about your plans for Victoria? We will be on the ship on the 10th and trying to find out if they have any excursions planned. Can you pass along any info you may have.

Not sure if anybody pointed this out...but the day you came to SF was a day record rain fall was recorded...I think the prior record was in 1905, LOL. I live a couple hours away...and we got more rain in one day, then we usually do for the entire month.

The weather has also been unseasonably cold for some reason...

How long were these people there screaming and yelling? Pretty much till they docked back in Long Beach to let them off? What a pain for the people not complaining to have to deal with this!

Hi Everyone!

I can sympathize with you all about being shortchanged on your Mexican Riviera cruise. I was on the 4/25/09 Sapphire Princess cruise to Mexico, and we too were diverted from all ports that had been scheduled. We ended up stopping in San Diego and Catalina instead.

I don't blame the cruiselines for erring on the side of caution- they were just looking out for our best interests, and following goverment recommendations. What surprises me is that Carnival did not offer any type of compensation to the affected passengers. Or did they? We were giving a 50% refund of the cruise fare that we paid, to be used on a future cruise booking with Princess. Plus, we were refunded approx. $55 in port charges on our onboard accounts. I was under the impression Carnival Corp. made this gesture across the board on all their brands- am I wrong? A little goodwill goes a long way if you ask me.

Hopefully everyone made the best out of a unique situation. I was disappointed due to the fact that I was travelling with 3 friends who have never been to the Mexican Riviera. We took it all in stride, and just ended up drinking and laughing all the stress away!:D

Unfortunately, all we received was a $40pp ship board credit for missed port charges. We too do not understand why it was not accross the board, which is why we are asking Carnival for an answer. We have not received any formal response from Carnival regarding the cruise at all. It has all been very disapointing.

Graham ~ thanks for the video....but after watching it, I actually think the guy in the Packers hat the next morning was worse. He was yelling at everyone at the top of his lungs. WOW! Thanks for posting. Miss you guys!

Man, I can't believe these were 'adults'! We were on the "Hurricane Isidore" cruise way back when, and half of the folks left the ship in NO, but they weren't acting like that. The only place we went was NO and then back to Galveston, we were offered nothing. But we were safe, and full and well treated. After all, you don't get to be in you (then) mid fifties and get to experience an adventure like that.

And I continue to cruise CCL.

As my gran said "act like you got some sense"

They weren't, were they?

To Wennefred & All,

We just returned from the 5/3/09 sailing on the Splendor to SF, Victoria, B.C., & Seattle. We had a great cruise. Loved the ports. Crew were outstanding, some great entertainment, and the food pretty good. We booked on Friday May 1 for $199 and were leery after reading your review on the embarkation process, since this was my first time on CCL and embarking in Long Beach. I have say, I don't know what was their problem when you embarked, but for us it was the shortest and least crowded embark and debarkation process I have seen. (We arrived about 12:45 pm.) We were in our room in about 10 - 15 minutes. Maybe it will be better for you next time!

Happy sailing.
