Hi guys,

i'm trying to budget for me partner and I going on a cruise. We're going on a 7 day NY-bahamas , I was just wondering how much spending money would you normally need on a 7 day cruise? I was budgeting for $2k but not too sure.

Cheers,

Schecter

It really depends on what you plan to do. If you drink a lot and enjoy larger purchases, then you may need $2000. On our last cruise, our statement at the end of the cruise was $1600. That included purchasing 2 paintings at the art auction. Don't forget the $12 per person per day service charge and extra money for tips throughout the cruise. The service charge alone is $168. Excursions generally run from $50-$150 (or more) per person depending on what you plan to do. Speciality restaurants on board run $10-$25 extra. Beer runs $20ish for 6. Mixed drinks are around $9 each. Purchases and other activities on the islands can vary depending on what you do.

If you have budgeted $2000, you should be fine. Keep in mind that all activities and purchases on board are charged to your onboard account. Your onboard account can be settled with cash at the end of your trip or you can prearrange when you check in to have it charged to your credit card. The credit card method is NCL's preferred method. In that case, you really only need a couple hundred dollars in cash.

I agree with the other poster about 2K probably being plenty. Just to give you and idea, I don't think our total bill has ever been more than $1600.00 other than what we have taken out for the casino. And we usually eat almost every night in a specialty restaurant and I shop frequently in the ships stores. Now keep in mind we do not drink alcoholic beverages or if we do maybe one or two at the most. Those can add considerable weight to your billing. If you do drink your fair share of alcoholic beverages.. you might want to consider getting the bar set up or whatever it is called for your stateroom. It is probably between 80.00 and 100.00 but that is a lot cheaper than the same amount of alcoholic drinks would cost you.

Hope you have a blast on your cruise. Please come back and tell us all about it.

Actually, you don't need any money, well, you would for tipping the cabin steward, butler, etc. If you plan to do some purchases in the Bahamas, you'll need some cash. Also, if you're a drinker, yes, $2k would be a good figure. We don't drink and we usally bring $1K apiece and have a bundle left over when we come home.

I have never spent 2K on a 7 day cruise. I normally have 1 or 2 drinks a day, go about 3 excursions, and buy about $100.00 in gift shop. I do buy a t-shirt in every port and something for each member of my family.

The most we have ever spent is $859.00

I am going on a 13 day cruise in Europe and I plan on only about 2k for that.

Have fun!

Remember some of the ports you can do on your own, more fun even.
