JenSDCA Posted May 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Hi all. We are considering taking advantage of the incredible deals for the rerouted Splendor, and I'm wondering if the seas are usually rough going along the coast. We have one family member prone to seasickness, and if the waters are rough, that person may stay home. Thanks for any feedback you may have - the deals are so good, it's almost cheaper than staying home!!
Winterstale Posted May 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2009 When you are headed down to Ensenada, the seas will be smooth -- on the return, you are going against the sea so it can be a bit rougher. They will probably take the ship into international waters at some point so they can open the casino - so you will probably hit a bit of rocking and rolling at some point along the way -- but it's not that bad. Sea bands or the patch should do the trick.
Winterstale Posted May 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Ah - never mind - my bad - just noticed you were talking Splendor...yes, it will probably be a bit rough going up to San Fran, etc. - I'm sure some of the folks who were on the last sailing can weigh in on this one! Cushing985 Posted May 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Hi all. We have one family member prone to seasickness, and if the waters are rough, that person may stay home. Thanks for any feedback you may have - the deals are so good, it's almost cheaper than staying home!! I've gone up there a couple of times on a Navy destroyer and it did tend to get rough. You'll be going through the Juan de Fuca Straits and we used to call it Juan de Puka Strait. Anyway, the Splendor is quite a bit bigger so there really shouldn't be a problem. A few days before sailing I would start taking ginger. If that doesn't help the ship's doctor will have a magic shot for you. I'm not sure what it is but my wife and daughter, who immediately got seasick out of New York, had no problems after the shot.
CRUISING71 Posted May 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2009 We were on Vision of the Sea 2 years ago going from LB to SFO, Victoria and Vancouver...in mid May...it was rough, cold and very windy. They closed all the deck. We kept falling off the bed while we slept. I am embarrassed to admit this, but we spend most of our night in the theater, because that was one place it felt more stable than in our cabin. lookslikdi Posted May 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2009 The shot they give is Phenergen. Which is an anti-nausa. Eat and drink ginger related products. Like ginger candy, pills and drink Canada Dry or generic ginger ale. Saltine plain crackers help absorb the stomach acids. Going S/B is not that bad. Going N/B again the currents is the killer. JenSDCA Posted May 7, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks for the info. That comfirms what I suspected. Now we have to decide if it is worth it. I'm guessing that the first couple of days would be rough heading north, but then it should settle. Hmmmm...
