SB007 Posted May 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2009 How close to the cruise ship docks in Skagway can one (legally) park one's rental car? The youngsters in our group will be going ahead to pick up the car from Avis, and we want to get back as near to the ship as possible, to minimize the walking required for the 80-year-olds in our group (two of whom have limited mobility and walk with canes.) Can we get closer to the ship if we are not actually parking, but rather picking up or dropping off passengers? Would bringing along a handicapped parking permit be of any help? Many thanks, Bob
Budget Queen Posted May 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2009 IF you are at the Ore dock you can drive right up to the entrance. BUT if you are the last ship on the Railroad dock, it is a walk. They usually run golf carts, but you can not get as close to the ship. No, a "handicap permit" isn't going to make any difference. There are areas that are restricted to all vehicles. Broadway dock also has a short walk to get to any car. Find out where your ship is assigned. There is a website posted somewhere on this board. SB007 Posted May 17, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted May 17, 2009 Find out where your ship is assigned. There is a website posted somewhere on this board. Thank you, Budget Queen. You have been tremendously helpful answering questions for many cruisers. (I haven't cruised yet, but have been lurking on CC for a while.) Your generosity with information and advice is much appreciated! This may be the website you referenced, which lists this summer's schedules for Alaska-bound ships: http://www.claalaska.com/schedules.html
