Past Guest Cocktail Party

I think there's so many past guests these days, that it's going to be harder and harder to accomodate them. The last time I attended a past guest party in the aft lounge was on the Conquest in 2006.

They're just not what they used to be. :(

DITTO ! !

I can take 'em or leave 'em. Usually jam packed. Great whiskey sours, however . . . reminded me of yesteryear. Appetizers were good, but as above harder and harder to accomodate the almost entire ship for a free booze party.:D

I see the past guest party being reduced to a couple of FREE DRINK COUPONS for past guests and the real party, terrifically upscaled for PLATINUM cruisers ONLY. That could be interesting. :D

(and that thread would be riddled with "I'm PLATINUM, but my wife has only 9 Carnival cruises, what should I do?")

Maybe it should just be for folks with like 10 or more cruises.

Thin out the ranks a little:D

Would that help?

WE actually had fun on our Past Guest Party on the Splendor. But of course depends on the company you keep. Made friends with our waiter and we got 5 drinks each. He just went to the bar and brought them back for us. Blue Margarittas and Whiskey Sours flew. All we had to do was look at our waiter and he brought us more drinks.

Yes!! We sure did have a good time at the party :) It's all in what you make it. I was surprised though that they didn't show the usual movie.

I think they need to forget the party. Just give repeat cruisers some OBC with the money they would save from not holding the 'party.' Do repeat cruisers really need a Carnival rah-rah. I went this past time just to see. Waste of time.

If they did that you do realize there would be a long list of threads with people complaining that it's just one more cutback or one more thing they took away right?? Carnival can't win in these situations. :)

People usually bring another person to a party, and the complications come when one is a past guest and one is not.

Geeeeez! The officially uninvited non-past guest is a pre past guest and could be seeing if they want to attend a future past guest party . . . if they choose to travel on Carnival again . . . as a bonafide past guest!:D

Heck, two free drink coupons would be more commiserate to the experience.

It's only a rah-rah if you actually pay attention to what they are saying. Tune it out and keep the drinks coming. Works for me.

I'd rather be in the bar of my choice. The free drinks are not that important to me personally ;).

I agree that a Platinum party would be good. But I also believe that if all the "I'M ENTITLED," non-invited, rude, non-past guests were kept out, the parties would not be overcrowded.

My wife is a couple of CCL cruises behind me. On my first Platinum cruise, she had not hit 10 but she got a Platinum card too. What that situation would do about a Platinum Party invite, I don't know since such doesn't exist.

Unknowingly, or uncaring, the party crashers are INSURING that the PG parties will be CUT. Just like RCL did.

Free booze. What other reason does anyone need to go?:D

Exactly, never heard so much bi&$?ing over free booze! I agree though, if you are not a past guest wait till you are! It wouldn't be called a past guest party if open for all. We never miss them, free drinks and a movie!:D

LOLOL Is there such a thing ???? I'm betting if they only served juice and soda at the past guest party they could hold it in the library and have plenty of seats left over ;)

You know, at the party I went to in April, there was one guy who every few minutes was chasing down a waiter for another drink (literally, on foot, hovering every time a new tray came out). He really looked like he was on a mission. I swear he was trying to see how mnay free drinks he could get down him. Most entertaining part of the whole thing. It reminded me of young kids waiting for the candy to be thrown from a parade float.

First off, I've attended past guest parties on several cruiselines and no matter which line I'm cruising at the time these parties seem alot like attending an Amway or Avon dealer convention. Only difference is that there's free watered down drinks served up.

Didn't start taking cruises until 2002 and found myself really enjoying the past cruise parties on the lines we've sailed until the last year or so. Seems to me the door prizes offered on the lines at the party have become much smaller and the drinks have become weaker as the number of past guests attending these functions on each ship has grown dramatically.

Personally, DH & I decide if we are going to attend the past guest party about an hour before the party is to be held. If we have something better to do at that time we go do it. If we're just trying to fill time before dinner, then we attend.

If you would ever have to deal with the destructive effects to fortune and family that alcoholism presents, you most likely, wouldn't be so blase' about non-drinkers. :)

I'm lucky, I didn't kill anyone, but on my cruises I only drink beer and an occasional wiskey sour at past guest parties. Otherwise in the State of California I'm a non-drinker.

And that, my dear, is why the drinks are watered down, IMHO.

Your description of young kids waiting for candy at a parade is very real for all too many of those who attend these events.

The words, ``free drinks'' bring out the best or worst of some people. Cruiselines don't want you to get too drunk early in the evening. If you get so drunk you pass out or have to go back to your cabin early you can't spend extra $$$ in the casino or the shops on board.:D

My father's a recovering alcoholic. He's been dry for over 25 years. He manages to kid around about it and made almost the exact same statement about how if it was a dry event, it would be the Carnival Booster Club showing up to show off their ships' pins.

I was thinking the same thing. Man oh man we can't even have light hearted fun bantering anymore without offending someone. Even when we attempt to bring humor to these threads we still manage to step on someones toes. ;)
