We are planning on going to Accra beach, have lunch and then go to the Green Monkey encounter. Is there enough time to do these things and make it back to the ship? How far away is Accra beach and the monkey encounter from the port? Thanks for the help.

Accra's about 15 mins. from the Port(half of that being traffic)

 

Monkeys at Wildlife Reserve are 1 hour from the Port, if U go directly there

but you'd probably do Accra in the morning first, before it gets uncomfortably hot.

 

 

 

Your 2 chosen locations for the day are almost but not quite at opposite ends of the island

-which happens to be a mere 21 miles long North to South

-which happens to be the orientation you'll be travelling along, to do Accra(on the South Coast)

and Wildlife Reserve, up North near Farley Hill Park.

 

You'll need to taxi it all the way,though.

 

 

If you get going early and get to Accra/Rockley by 9 or 9:30

you can do da beach thing until noon

by which time you will have soaked up quite enough Accra rays to turn you pink

Have lunch somewhere on the beach or real-nearby

and then get a taxi from the Accra Hotel rank and head for the Northern end of the island.

 

Probably best you instruct him you want as direct a route as possible to save time

or he might want to take you past other scenic places

which would be Ok if you had the time.

 

From Accra to Wildlife Reserve should take an hour minimum, maybe a titch more.

So you're up to Wildlife Reserve by let's say 2 p.m.?

Sound about right for the monkey munching schedule from what I've been told.

If there are several ships in Port the same day as you

you'll need to take into account the backlog of vehicles

as the several thousands of you cruisers all get back to the Port around the same time!

 

 

So allow an hour for getting back from the Monkeys encounter to the Port AREA,

where you might spend another 30 mins stuck in traffic

- unless you decide it's close enough to pay the guy and thank him

and just walk it the rest of the way(probably quicker than crawling taxis,anyway!) :cool:

 

..and then into the secure Port area by showing your cruise-card to get in.

 

 

A lot depends on what's going down on Your Day//how many ships are in, OK? ;)

Almost my exact question.

 

Aplmac, is there another beach, perhaps closer to the monkey exhibit, which might make the travel easier to get a beach and monkey encounter in during the day?

 

Ideally we wanted to do a tour with the monkeys, beach, and Harrisons Cave but only place I could find which offers that is shoretrips which seems a bit on the high end.

- or Mullins..also West Coast

We just got back from our cruise. We ended up taking a cab to Payne's Bay beach and snorkeled. They were able to snorkel with some turtles before the big crowds arrived. We left the beach around 11:30, went back to the ship, and then went on the monkey excursion through RCCL. We took the ship's excursion because I was worried about the time. It was great because they fed the monkey's when we were there at 2:00p.m. Our tour guide was awsome and we had a great time.

Mullins may not be a good option right now because of some beach erosion going on there.
