Casino Luck?

Recommended Posts

Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall that RCI has its license through one of the casinos???

Yes they do....it's Harrah's. On Jewel of the Sea's they even have a Harrah's sign on the office door as you walk into the casino on the left side.

They are govern by the Las Vegas gambling commission.

The only money I ever won was on the Celebrity Century. I walked into the casino & the ship rolled a little. One of machines that you put the coin in a slot & it supposed to knock others out actually dropped a quarter out. Hey, I was ahead 25¢.

I sailed the Serenade at the end of March this year. After dinner on the last night of the cruise I dropped $20.00 into a quarter machine and won $480.00. Put a big smile on my face for the rest of the night!

How could they be regulated by the Las Vegas Gaming Commission when they are registered in the Bahamas or Panama and sail in international waters?

I highly doubt if this is true.

According to a cruise gambling website, International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) has rules to cover gaming on the ships and is "loosely" based on rules and regs in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and UK. Although the rules are in place - other than annual internal audits there is no governance.

On the Voyager of the Seas, DH & I played craps. In Vegas, we always hit the $2 tables but on the ship, it was a $5 table. We won ~$450 the first night! The 2nd night, we were ahead by about $200, and then of course, it went down each night, but still, we walked away way ahead. We never had that kind of luck in Vegas!

Anyone sail on the Freedom of the seas lately and won in the Casino? If so what machine did you play. Just wondering since I will be on the Freedom of the Seas in June. Hoping to find some good luck. I'm one who does not win much. I usually sit at a slot machine for awhile, then decide I've had enough. Get up and start to leave when someone comes by and puts a few quarters in and hits it big.

Maybe not govern by but.....

The ICCL guidelines address the equipment, conduct of games, internal controls, and customer service for casinos on cruise ships. In terms of facilities and equipment, the ICCL guidelines call for all equipment purchased and installed on cruise vessels to "meet the regulatory standards of the Nevada Gaming Control Board or other licensed jurisdiction for payback and internal software."

Uh, no. My statement is 100% correct. And it is a fact, not an opinion.

I agree. The effect in maybe a single hand, it happens, over the shoe, nope. What about the "mis-play" at first base? No one remembers that; only third base if they lose that hand.

Now I can talk about dice setting and throwing.

Two years ago on the Liberty, we had some free time one afternoon on a sea day and went into the casino. I had an idea of how to play roulette but didn't feel extremely comfortable playing it. The super nice dealer had no one else at the table so she gave us a good long explaination of the game. My husband and I would only take $20 to the table when we went back and played that evening. I think we played 4-5 nights out of 7 for about an hour in between doing other things. I know exactly what we spent because we had set aside only a certain amount. We spent about $180 (together) but we came out almost $500 ahead. It paid for all 4 of our tips with money leftover.

We always knew when to walk away from the table, when we were ahead of course. ;) We had so much fun.

Well I've been playing the game for about a good 15 years. So Googling Blackjack makes no sense for me. I can just tell you from my own personal experience that good players are better than bad ones. And bad players that make bad moves do far less better than people who know how to play.

Of course bad players do far less better. That is absolutely true but it has nothing to do with what we were talking about. You made a claim that a bad player causes good players to win less often at that particular table. That is the point we were discussing. Obvious you are set in you misconception and are not open to learning the truth. Just like some people insist that if you step on a crack you break your mother's back, so some people believe that a bad player at BJ harms their own chances. Anyhow, I am off for Vegas tomorrow, so am done with this discussion. :)

So true. If you play the machines, then I guess luck might have something to do with it. They all follow a computer program, so it all depends at what point in the loop the program is in when you sit down. So they are able to program how much they are going to pay out on a specific cruise.

In a slot machine there is no loop in the computer program, and there is no way to program how much a machine will pay on every cruise.

every time a slot is played it has the same chance of a payout as everytime the slot is played. I spent many years in the slot dept. of a major nevada casino and a very good friend of mine worked on a ship on slots on both Carnival and RCI.

There is no thing as the "Las Vegas gambling commission"

its called the Nevada gaming commission.

And I don't think the cruise lines need a license as they only operate in International waters. Harrahs may operate the casino, but they are not licensed by Harrahs.

You are EXTREMELY lucky. From a statistical standpoint, roulette is one of the worst games to play in a casino. With both 0 and 00 on the board, the house edge is 5.26% That means, on average, for every $100 you play, you will lose $5.26.

Hello All,

I am wondering if someone here may have the answer to this...

My husband insists he has seen somewhere on the internet that there are poker tournaments he can pay a fee to enter. We are on the Adventure of the Seas, so I am not sure if this might vary by ship. I know there is video poker, but don't think that is considered a tournament - he insists it's with a group of live people.

I have only played slots (and 10 cent slots at most - too chicken!!) so I am no help. I did several Google searches and have no idea what he is talking about!

If anyone knows if this is true, I'd love to know. Thanks so much!

There is usually a Texas Holdem, Blackjack and slots tournaments that you pay to enter.

What irritates me at Blackjack is when everyone is playing $6 or $10 then some showoff bozo sits down and plays $25 or $50 a hand and complains about the other players. Kindly move to a higher minimum table.

Anyone ever lucky on board at the Casino? We sail this Saturday on the Serenade of the Seas and just thought I would ask.

You need to know that the house has the advantage on ALL casino games. Always, keep in mind you can and often lose money. The key is when to know when to stop especially when you are ahead. Most folks think they will win and keep winning. Develop a system. Let's say you win 1000 dollars the first night of the cruise. Pocket your original investment and if you lose the 1000 dollars of the money you win that should end your casino gambling for the trip. Play wisely.

By the way if you like casinos and this forum, please reply and sign my petition. :D

Just back from our Alaskan Cruise and lucky for me I only played in the casino two seperate times and left with my own money and a few bills of thiers.

Yes there were tournaments for Black Jack and also Texas Hold'em. I did not play so I am unsure of the buy in fee.

Thanks for all the replies!
