We are cruising on Navigator of the Seas on 9/27 from Rome. Any ideas on transportation from the airport to Civitavecchia and from Civitaveccia to city (Rome) without using the cruise line's transfers.

The cruise line's airfare w/transfers is obscene and hotels (pre or post cruise are even worse.

Any help will be welcomed.

Europe is expensive. Period.

From the port to Rome city center it is about 1 hr and 20 minutes.

You have basically 3 choices. Ship ride, private ride or train. Train is cheap but must get from ship to train station and with luggage UGG! Ship transfer or private ride. We used Romecabs and shared with 2 other couples from our roll call. Paid 57 euros per couple from port to hotel (right next to Pantheon).

Hope this helps.
