We leave June 1st on the Destiny!!!! I am wondering how much cash we will need on the cruise. We will not be drinking or will not gamble. I have save money just for extra things. I just don't know if I should bring a lot of cash with us or just put the money in the bank and use my debit/credit card. What will I need cash for?? When you go to Nassau to go shopping I am guessing they just take cash most places. Thanks, starting to stress out, we are leaving tomorrow to drive to Orlando for a few days at Disney before our cruise!!!! Thanks, I have learned so much from these boards!! :)

I used to just use a debit card, for anything onboard. Tips are $10 per day per person. Other than that nothing is going to be charged unless its something you want to buy.

A few souveneirs in the ports, you will need cash for. If you want to grab a taxi somewhere, another $20 probably. You can always just go back on the ship in the ports for lunch and then go back and wander around to save money.

some spend partically nothing and others spend more, its hard to predict for another person.

Do bring some $1s in a envelope to tip with, the porters at the port, room service is free, just give them a couple of bucks tips, etc.

If you're not going to drink or gamble, that will cut down on your "cash" expenses. How many are you? Are you big souvenier buyers? Will you be making reservations for shore excursions on the ship? All of these things, and more will cost you. If you can, try and take a little more than you think you'll need. Never know when you'll run across that stuffed lizard you've been wanting to buy!!!!!

Bring more cash than you think you will need. You can keep it in your room safe, and if you don't spend it, you can put it back into the bank when you get home. Debit cards aren't readily accepted in many "straw market" situations....

You will need some cash for tips ashore, for porters, taxis, etc....Then, there's always the odd item, a soda, gum, etc...that is much easier in cash.

what are you using for your shipboard account? If it's a credit card, then anything you purchase onboard will be charged to that. (Or, you can use your cash to pay off your account on the last night)

Thanks everyone! I know it is hard to know what I will want to spend. We will want to buys some stuff and will be doing a few excursions. I just was wondering about things that only take cash. Like at ports and tips, stuff like that. Bringing dollar bills is a good idea. I do know about the $10 tip a day thing. This is our first cruise so we are getting a little nervous about everything. There is 4 of us going, me, husband, and two sons, 6 and 8. My fear is taking a lot of cash and losing it!!

Typically you only need cash for souveniers, tipping room service, taxis, food and drinks in port, extra tip for room steward or wait staff if called for. Everything else on ship is charged to S&S card. Have a great time and welcome to cruising.:D

Like others have said, you only need cash $ for tips (to porter, room service, taxi, etc.) and souvenirs, beach fees, eating, taxis, etc. at ports and at the end of the cruise.

So take lots of 1 dollar bills for tips. Enough cash with some to spare for the other cash items that others have mentioned.

Then some couple of hundreds in TC's. This will be your reserve fund and safe since only you will be able to encash them. Usually the ship's Guest Relations and/or Casino will help you with TC's (in more ways than one!) :D

We put cash on our on board account but aside from that we spent:

$20 porter tip

around $100 in extra tips

I think DH spent $10 on a hat in Coz

That was it we don't drink and didn't use room service.

Oh I think DH used cash for bingo a couple of times ($20 each time but you can use your S&S) and I bought $10 in the scratcher cards, won $15 though so I got it back LOL

Oops forgot we tipped our excursion guide $40 I think for the 2 of us.

It really depends on your situation. We usually take $50-100 in singles for tips things like tipping the porters, room service, etc. Some places in ports don't take credit cards, so if you plan on shopping, you'll need cash for those, too. We usually tip tour/excursion guides as well.

Most places take plastic though, so don't stress out too much.
