Earthquake

"At 2:24 AM this morning we were wakened when our bed began shaking. It

felt as though someone was at the foot of the bed and giving it a

continual hard shake. It wasn't a one shake ordeal. It continued for

over a minute, softening then shaking harder.

Coming from Alaska where earthquakes are a weekly to monthly

occurrence we immediately knew what was happening, however, it was

still unnerving. This quake was what we call in Alaska a "Jell-O"

quake - not a hard quick snap type of quake but a rolling, floating

type of quake that lasts much longer."

"The quake was a 7.1 (according to news sources) centered 80 miles off

of La Ceiba, Honduras where it destroyed houses. The tsunami warning

went out immediately and was predicted to hit Belize around 3:00 AM.

Nothing noticeable occurred here."

From the AP Wire – “In Belize, people rushed from their homes as

glasses and framed pictures crashed off of shelves. At least five

wooden houses on stilts collapsed in three towns and a water tower

toppled in the town of Independence, local officials said. Electricity

was out all the way to the Mexican border.”
