Craps Players Step Inside!

Hey! Piemom9397 here. I adore craps. I won't say I'm a newbie, because I've been playing it since Vegas in 2006 (went from slots to 3 card poker to BJ to craps in the course of 4 visits to Vegas) but I do have to say that I couldn't tell you the odds and how much payout I'm going to get if I do a come or place bet. I just love playing and have found that the dealers have always taken care of me wherever I go. :D I never played the $5 tables until cruising--the first night on Voyager of the Seas, DH & I won $450! And I've been hooked ever since.

I have a quirky thing I do with the field--if a number on the field has rolled 3 times, I'll place a bet on it. I'd say that has worked for me 8 times out of 10. If the point is a 2, 4, 6 or 8, I'll do that number the hard ways. Ever so often I'll place a C & E bet but that's about it.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread--love it!!

Welcome!!!!!

I will do my very best to convert you to the dark side! :D

I love craps! Lots going on around the table and lots of ways to bet the game. I generally do a pass bet with odds, come bet with odds, and usually a buck any craps on opening roll. My first cruise on Caribbean Princess in 08, I came away $600 up! Last year on Crown Princess, I gave a little back but I'm an optimist, I'll be at the table again soon!

BTW, I'm in Colorado and they just put craps into casinos here and increased bet limits. I was up at the Ameristar in Blackhawk yesterday and picked up a quick hundy!

I am leaving this Sunday on the Conquest and CAN'T WAIT to get to the craps tables!! Here's to hoping this cruise will be as fruitful to me as my last cruise was at the craps tables. Pass line, full odds, come bets, full odds. Oh yeah.... :)

Philv....If you are going to bet a high house percentage bet of craps which pays 6:1, toss the stickman $3 (or any increment of $3-6-9-ETC)and call out three way craps. If the 3 rolls you are paid $13 (15 to 1 less-$2) and your bet is still up for the next roll. If the 2 or 12 rolls you are paid $28 (30 to 1 less-$2) and your bet is still up for the next roll. Still a pretty high house percentage bet but you get more bang for your money.

I had a few big days at the craps table on Carnival last week. I won $1500. I am finding that only going into the casino a few nights with larger amounts of money is better than playing every night for smaller amounts....

Money management and a little luck goes a long way! If I can double my money - I leave. If I lose half, I leave. I like your "fewer sessions with more money". That will keep my DW happier too. :D

But how much did you lose?

Well i have to say that this thread was an interesting afternoons read :)

I've been playing craps for @ 12 years but alas only once or twice a year and some years 0 :(

Last year on the RCL Indy managed to win @ $800 but most of that one night when they gave 2x odds. The other nights of the cruise was only 1X which kind of stinks. will be on the NCL Pearl in Feb and looking forward to higher odds and some more craps fun.

In the end it's nicer to win but the wife and I enjoy the fun of playing so we play the right side.

No offense to those "Dark Siders";)

I'm another one who only plays while cruising, which is normally 2 to 4 times a year. I check the casino every night, and there have been many nights when no one is playing. While I realize dice have no memory, we all know there are hot streaks and cold streaks. Bet extra when hot, bet minimum when neutral, and leave when the dice are cold.

That is very cool! I can't wait to try it. My feeling is there are a lot of craps opening rolls and a buck or two is no big deal, if I lose it I've got my pass bet and work the come bets from there. It really takes the sting out when the dice turn to ice cubes and everybody is rolling craps out of the gate.

I was actually surprised at the number of dark siders on my recent CCL cruise. Normally I am on the only one on the ship. There were at least five of us, some of them taking full double odds in the dark side. When the table was full there was at least one or two 10s that came up that dinged our group for 1 - 2K. It was a fun table though...

lsteefa, I agree with your payouts it it hits but it seems to me that those bets are all just single roll bets and the non winners will be taken by the house. Am I missing something?

Highflying...They are one roll bets with big percentages in the house' favor IE (2/12 pays 30:1..true odds 35:1...3 pays 15:1...true odds 17:1). If the 2 or 12 rolls you are paid $28 (30:1) less the $2 to keep the two losing bets up. If the 3 rolls you are paid $13 (15:1) less the $2 to keep the losing bets up. I agree its a bad bet but if you want to bet any craps @ 6:1 payoff its a better wager to make a three way craps bet.

Roger that lsteefa. I was mis-interpreting your "less $2" as the lost bets instead of the re-bets. So actually if you win it could be "less $3" to get all the bets back up (2,3,& 12), right? Myself, I save longshots for the exotics at the track...:D

LOL.....Pass on a 50:1 track longshot when you get a chance.

Well I hope you people are happy. I've spent a huge chunk of my day working through all 23 pages of this thread :-)

Many thanks to all of you for the valuable info.

I'm going on RCCL's Liberty in three weeks and cruising is the only time I ever get to play Craps, so I'm looking forward to "making my donation" via dice again. With your help, and with a little luck, maybe my donation will be minimized, and my time at the table will be maximized.

Special thanks to Yo Eleven for all the info and for the review of your Liberty cruise. I will drop my expectations for the casino WAY back, so as to avoid disappointment. For all of the info you've given with me, I'm ALMOST prepared to forgive you for being a wrong bettor :->

For the record, I'm a right bettor. Just a basic pass line + odds + place the 6 & 8 guy, with the occasional hard way if I feel I'm not losing fast enough.

I also enjoy toking the crew. It's just fun when they're in the game with you and it seems to elevate the mojo of the table and pep things up a bit. I used to make hard way bets for the crew, but after reading all of this and watching some youtube clips, I think I'll just stick to keeping the tokes on the pass line + odds along side my bet.

I read somewhere today that the dealers income is 50 to 80 percent tips. I hope that's just land based casinos and not cruise ships, because from my observations, there wasn't much tipping going on in the ships casino. Anyone have any info on that?

I live in NC and there are no table games anywhere around here. There's a video based casino on an indian reservation a couple hours away. I went there once. ONCE. It just wasn't fun. It takes real dice, real chips, and real dealers to make it fun, for me at least. The place was packed so obviously others do not agree.

OK I've rambled on long enough I suppose.

Thanks again everyone!

You are welcome!!!!!!! Let us know how you make out on your cruise. Hopefully your experience on Liberty will be better in the casino.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: How was your trip to St. Croix? How did you do in the Casino and at the Craps table.

Well the casino is in the middle of nowhere which was interesting. The staff was VERY friendly and knowledgeable. It was a lot of fun and enjoyed it a lot. Not a big place but they have all the major games. As for how I made out. After a few hours play I took a bath. Cruizincurt would have been laughing his arse off counting his stack of chips. There was no such number seven that night. Would go back in a heartbeat though and i highly recommend the place. Can't win everytime, but my time is a coming.

I heard it all night!!!!! But what saved me was the atmosphere was awesome. I even gave the dealers tips at my expense for a job well done.

As for me, I wanted to kick the crap out of myself for not walking away sooner. Those pass line players really raked in the money when I was there.

My turn will come again. :D
