Thomson Destiny Jul 09 - Excursions

Recommended Posts

We are going on this cruise through Portland, but it is still a Thomson destiny Cruise for the Jewels of the Med.

I am hoping that we can avoid the expensive costs of excursions by finding our own way to some of the places.

The ports of call are:

Palma

Palermo

Toulon

Napels

Olbia

Barcelona

Are there attractions or beaches that you can walk to from where the ship docks? or do we need to take the excursions?

Many Thanks

Hi Crystal

Can help with a few -

Palma - get off the boat turn right along the coast road looking at the expensive yachts in less than 30 mins walk you are at the cathedral (you can't miss it). If not into wlaking, the bus for a few euros goes from the port to town centre.

Toulon - again off the boat and you are there! Unfortunately not on the same league as Palma but interesting still to get the flavour.

Naples - off the boat through the port (100 or so metres) cross the road and your there. The problem is crossing the road and, in fact, any road in Naples, in fact any pavement in Naples. Somebody once said "see Naples and die" - well be careful on the roads! Other than that a lovely city, plenty of churches and cathedralss and try a "neoplitan something" - pizza, ice cream whatever.

Barcelona - Used to be, off the boat and past the monument and you were at the bottom of the Ramblas. I believe the boat now stops at Palamos which is too far to walk so its a local bus or taxi. What ever if you have never been there go! It is one of the best cities in the world.

Walk the Ramblas, go gothic and see Gaudis masterpieces especially the cathedral.

Bon Voyage and enjoy

If you dock in Palamos don't get the bus or it will take you about 3 hours and don't get a taxi without agreeing a price first it's a long way (70 miles) Best go on a tour if you want to see Barcelona

Are you docking in Palamos or actually in Barcelona. If it's in Barcelona it's dead easy to just walk up the main street and pick up the open top buses and you can go all around the city and just hop on and hop off.

Ann

We are docking in Barcelona.

Thanks for all your replies, very helpful
