Caribe Hilton vs Embassy Suites (San Juan)

Recommended Posts

We are going to be using HiltonHonors points for a pre-cruise night in San Juan and are eligible for a "free" room at either of these two hotels. We don't gamble and aren't drinkers (so the casino and "happy hour" at Embassy Suites is not a big draw for us), but do like to hang out by the pool. We will be doing a little sightseeing in Old San Juan (mainly taking our Son to see the two forts, as we have been to San Juan before and toured most of the area). We will be sailing on Adventure of the Seas so will need to take a cab from the hotel to the Pan Am Pier on cruise day. Has anyone been at both of these hotels that may have some feedback as to which one might be preferable for a short stay? Anyone stayed at either of these hotels that has useful feedback of any kind? Thank you for your help!

I just stayed at the Caribe and I think it is the nicest hotel in San Juan. They have a very nice pool area and their own enclosed lagoon for swimming as well as extensive grounds with peacocks walking around.

I agree with superjerryw. Its a nice hotel and the lagoon is nice. The pool is to levels and was seldomed used the time I was there. The restuarants in the Hotel were a little pricey but It had a great breakfast buffet

Thanks for the ongoing feedback! I am leaning toward the Hilton, but have not heard too much about the Embassy Suites, so am not ruling it out yet icon_wink.gif I've stayed at other Hiltons and Embassy Suites and they have all been fine. I am hoping for a more "resort-y" feel this trip. Hilton seems to meet our needs and I like the location too. ES seems to be a bit more out of the way.

The hilton is definetely closer if you want to tour Old San Juan. I am staying at the ES in November because we love the happy hour and breakfast. I also like that they are all suites. I heard the Hilton is an awesome hotel. But if you want convenience to Old San Juan I would go with the Hilton. ES is right by the airport.

We liked the Hilton for several reason. It has the only private beach in the area, its conveniently located between Condado Beach and San Juan, and its a nice property. We were able to get the Caribe Hilton via Priceline for $65 per night. They upgraded us to an Ocean View when we showed our Hilton Honors Card (it it free if u register on-line). Pretty good deal for San Juan in season.

I agree with all the posters on the Caribe Hilton. It was great in all aspects plus you are right at the ship and pier. We took a cab and it was just a couple of blocks. Hilton's grounds are beautiful plus all the nice water areas. Have fun.

Is the pier that Caribe Hilton is close to the one that Adventure sails from? I know there are two cruise piers in San Juan. We docked at the pier right in Old San Juan when sailing on Explorer, but I believe Adventure is at a different pier.

Thanks again!
