traveler1980 Posted June 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2009 We will be in Sydney from 8-5 and renting a car. We plan on driving out to the Fortress, but wasn't sure if this would take all our time or if we should also plan on some other scenic viewing or taking note of other spots of interest. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

We plan on driving out to the Fortress, but wasn't sure if this would take all our time or if we should also plan on some other scenic viewing or taking note of other spots of interest. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! You can easily spend all of your alloted time at the Fortress. You will have to park at the visitor centre, buy your tickets and then wait for a shuttle bus to take you to the fortress. You will have to wait for a bus back to the visitor centre when you are done, so factor that into your time allowance. The trip from Sydney to Louisbourg takes about 45 minutes on two lane roads with lower speed limits. Plan on taking a jacket or fleece even if it is warm and sunny in Sydney. The Fortress area sits in an exposed area and can be quite chilly and foggy. You will enjoy your day there as the whole presentation is very well done. It is run by Parks Canada. Enjoy your day. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/ns/louisbourg/index.aspx
ranchette Posted June 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2009 I read on the NCL board that the Fortress of Louisbourg is right in the city area and its possible to walk to from where the ship docks. Is this correct?
traveler1980 Posted June 24, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted June 24, 2009 No you cannot walk there and there is no public transportation. You will have to rent a car or do a shore excursion. This is from my understanding.
LuAnn Posted June 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2009 to Sydney. We took ship transportation in 06 (on QM2) and had a wonderful day. It is very interesting and can probably take up your day...getting there and back and exploring the fort. And the mention re the coats is a good one! It is very windy there! Have a great time! sapper1 Posted June 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2009 I read on the NCL board that the Fortress of Louisbourg is right in the city area and its possible to walk to from where the ship docks. Is this correct? Someone gave you incorrect information. The Fortress is nowhere near Sydney and, as a previous poster mentioned, there is no public transportation. You will need a ship's excursion or you will need to rent a car.
