Passport for Cruise to Nowhere?

I was thinking about taking the Cruise to Nowhere on the Dream out of New York. My sister who would be going with me doesn't have a passport, do you know if you would even need one?

I'm waiting for the price to come down, I think it's high right now for a 2 day cruise but I'm excited to see the new ship!

The final passport rules are in place and will not be changing any time soon (the comment period will take at least 2 or 3 years before anything could change). She will not require a passport for a closed loop cruise out of NYC.

call carnival to check on that. I took cruise to nowhere last Oct and at that time we needed birth certificate/ driver licence or passport.

Correct, you will either need a DL & BC OR if you don't want to carry the DL & BC around, you can bring your PP instead (if you have one) But it is not required.

Why do you need a passport? The ship is not making any port-of-calls. The only way off the ship once on is to jump over the side. By the way, two day cruises are probably the most expensive on a per day basis.

Perhaps... but compared to a weekend in NYC.. it's quite a bargain.. Including food and entertainement...:)

I don't know about that. As anyone that lives in NYC knows there are things that you could do that don't cost a whole lot. And if you like to play in casinos as much as I do then it might run a lot more. However, I will be on this trip to get an extra few days on board this new ship.

I was just on the Carnival site putting in my info for the CTN 11/13 and when you get the the second information page, this statement is there:

All guests will soon be required to be in possession of a valid passport when traveling on any Carnival cruise. Visit www.travel.state.gov for the latest and exact passport requirements.

That statement has been there as long as I can remember... It was intended to address the June 1st requirements that everyone would need a passport. That requirement has since been updated/clarified, but that statement hasn't.

I know you don't need a passport on closed loop cruises, but why would you even need a birth certificate for a cruise to nowhere? You never set foot in another country.

A fundamental distinction many people fail to make involves requirements for entry into the United States. A cruise to nowhere will involve time spend in international waters where duty free shops and a casino will operate. Carnival Cruise Ships are foreign flagged vessels. Once they leave US waters they are subject to the rules for entering the United States.

On our 2 CTNs this year, when you return to NYC you do not show any documentation. You ding your cruise card to get off the ship, and you're done. No checkpoint after that. We were in a taxi in about 30 seconds after walking off the ship.

You could still see Long Island on the last 2 night CTN, so you don't go as far as they show you do on the web site map.

I have and I work in the city and Live on the island now

If you want a weekend at a hotel in the city, plus shows/entertainment or in AC with Casinos and entertainment-it will cost quite a bit more than the $300 bucks for a ctn...:)

A Lloyd Lindsey Young greeting to you trock.

First, the C-T-N is costing quite a bit more than $300. Second, if I want to go to Atlantic City I get a room from the hotel. It only cost me the tax. Food, most of the time the hotel picks it up. If not, then it costs a few bucks. I enjoy playing in the Casino and so does my wife.

Remember, the original poster was waiting for the price to drop before purchasing a ticket. And what did I tell him, that the price probably won't drop on this cruise. Carnival has no trouble filling up on C-T-N cruises.

By the way trock, are you going on this cruise? If so maybe we will come across each other at the craps table.
