ROBALIS Posted June 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2009 Friends of ours just came back from Bermuda on the Dawn and said that there was nothing to do onboard due to the weather...we have 2 kids 9 and 6 and was just wondering will they have a good time? It's our first time on a cruise. The talk of lousy food/service has us a bit concerned. Incase of rain, do they show kids movies in the theater...what is there to do on sea days? Thanks.

islandgirlejfan Posted June 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2009 I can't answer about things to do in bad weather because we have never really had an issue with that, but don't let the postings get you down about the food and the service. When I read some of the postings here I wonder what people are used to when they stay in a hotel. Beyond having our room made up and a request or two taken care of, we are just not that needy. I have read postings on all of the major cruise lines here that someone complains about this or that. As far as food, I have eaten things in some very fine restaurants that I didn't care for. I have seen people send things back that were not to their liking. I love breakfast on NCL and while I haven't eaten in the MDR since we cruised on the Leeward, the menus looked fine and we actually heard a lot of kudos about them when we were on the Sky, we just chose to do the surcharge restaurants. Don't let things you read here bother you....go and have a great time!:D
Mooder Posted June 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2009 Friends of ours just came back from Bermuda on the Dawn and said that there was nothing to do onboard due to the weather...we have 2 kids 9 and 6 and was just wondering will they have a good time? Thanks. Don't know where you are hearing talk of lousy food and service. We just got back from the rainiest cruise we have ever been on and count it as one of the best. We have always enjoyed the food and service on NCL, but see a definite improvement from Very Good to Excellent. There is lots to do and as Zone says, the kids part is easy. We talked to so many parents whose kids (same ages as yours) didn't ever want to leave the kids club. They were amazed how much they loved it. If you don't like any of the activities the ship provides, I suggest getting a spa pass and relaxing. We generally love the spa but never had time to use it this cruise, we were too busy having fun - game room, movies, seminars (on comedy and memory, among others), drinking clinics (martini, mojito, sangria were all fantastic), pub crawl, many people live in the casino, games put on by the cruise staff (John is a very energetic and charismatic CD who keeps things hopping!). And I haven't even mentioned the music, a category in which the Dawn really shines. There is always wonderful live music to enjoy.
flashdog_1 Posted June 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2009 If planned games and activities is not your style, just explore the ship, taking the time to see the beauty of it all, and the amazing synchronization of how the crew works together. Surely you'll find a spot you like and can sit down to read a book (the library is where you'll find one if you didn't bring one with you), try a new drink concoction, listen to music, go to the chapel, see what games they have in the game room, and if all else fails, or you're tired, watch a movie on tv. NCL has a roster of very recently released DVDs, plus there is a channel of older movies. Take a nap. Have a second breakfast, a snack etc. ha

Mooder Posted June 29, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2009 OK,:) now I feel better! Yippee, glad we could help. I wanted to mention that if you like movies, as mentioned, you can see them in your cabin, but they are also shown throughout the day in the Cinema on the Dawn - they will be in the schedule in the Freestyle Daily. But again I never had time for that. ;)

We just returned from Bermuda also, the same week your friends were there, just on a different NCL ship. Yes,the weather was horrible. But you really don't have to let that stop you. We put on poncho's, grabbed our umbrella's and went out to tour the island. So if you are prepared and have the right attitude, don't let the weather stop you. kosoffj Posted July 15, 2009 #16 Share Posted July 15, 2009 robalis - i think we are on the same cruise! i too am worried about rain, it would be a bummer if we didn't get some nice weather. i looked at the forecast and it looks ok, not great but not a washout. please don't worry about food or service. this is our 14th with ncl and we've never had a bad one. staff is great, always loved the food, and freestyle rocks :) they are particulary accomodating with children (we have a 3 year old who is coming!) kids crew is great. our ds has always loved it. Bermuda is beautiful. we've had rain both other times we went but not enough to spoil our trip. Join the roll call and maybe you and your kids can meet a few friends before boarding :)
Rare CTCruisers Posted July 15, 2009 #17 Share Posted July 15, 2009 There are a few things to see on the island even if it is raining. The caves are an interesting option. There is an aquarium there too. There is always something going on onboard.
