Casino

My wife and I are new to cruising. We're sailing around Italy from Barcelona on the Quest beginning September 26th and we will hit the onboard casino a few times. I'm wondering how it works. Will I be losing Dollars or Euros? Do you just walk up to the table and trade cash for chips? Do I put the chips on my shipboard account? How does it work? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

The casino will be open as long as you are at sea and moving,ie not overniting, you will lose dollars, you can change for chips at table or at tellers cage, you can charge to you room card but i think its a 3% surcharge, and its only a small casino but big enough to lose in ;):):)

I won dollars.:) If you aren't going to bring a significant amount of cash with you but are thinking that you'll need more than $300 (for whatever reason), then think about using the ATM - there's a flat $6 fee, so if you withdraw $1000 it'll cost you $6, but if you take it from the cashier it'll cost you $30 (3% cash advance fee).

You mention that an ATM is a less expensive way to get cash. Are there ATMs on the ship? or should we get cash while in port? If we get cash for the casino in port won't it be Euros instead of Dollars?

Thanks,

Ken

The onboard currency on Quest in May was US $. There is one ATM on the ship.

Although travellers' checks are "free," you have to remember to spend/cash them all. The TC companies live on the float from people who forget that they have on $xxx TC in their wallet.:)
