Cymro1953 Posted July 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Hi All we are going on the Island Escape on 14/07/09 going to sicily, livorno, naples ,cannes, and barcelona any tips on diy excursions would be a great help . also can you take alcohol on board to drink in your cabin ??? Thanks in advance Hi, Can help with some, theyve changed some of the ports since last year. Barcelona, there is a HOHO bus that starts right outside the port entrance and we got to see most of the main sites and walk part of las Ramblas and down through the Gothic Quarter back to the seafront past the statue of Columbus back to the ship. Naples, the ship berths close to town. Again they have a HOHO bus. Or you can get a train to Pompeii or Hericulanum. Or get the fast ferry across to Capri. Livorno we did a ship's excursion to Puccini's Lake and Pisa. A lovely relaxing day, but you don't get to go up the tower. There are helpful posts on the Ports of call part of CC under Western Europe. We tend to do mainly ship's excursions for the convenience unless we are somewhere we can do ourselves easily. Hope it's some help. Berwyn
neilinblack Posted July 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Does anyone know what the situation in Livorno is regarding doing your own thing ? I've read elsewhere on this site that you have to pay a hefty fee on a shuttle bus into town. But this may be dependent on where you berth. Rebel Rouser Posted July 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2009 Liverno? it depends wher you dock..we did that last week and had to pay 5 euro's each for a return ticket. But if you dock near the town centre..it is less than 5 minutes walk.
neilinblack Posted July 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Thanks for that rebel Rouser. I'm planning on using the train from Livorno to Pisa. Elsewhere on this forum I've heard that passengers are being seriously ripped off on the shuttle, since it's compulsory. 5 euros not too bad.
