Mom & I are docking at Puerta Maya at 10, leaving at 6. We'd like to have breakfast on top of the museum downtown, visit the museum, taxi to a sandy beach for a couple hours where eating isn't a requirement, then take a taxi back downtown to have lunch at one of the many restaurant choices and look in a few shops. Do you think too much time/money would be spent in taxis? If so, are there any good places to have breakfast near the pier so we could taxi to the beach from the dock area? Which beach would you recommend? Water toys/snorkeling not necessary. Anyone have a better plan?

Taxi to the museum will be 10 minutes MAX, so you're not really wasting too much time. Your breakfast options by the pier are slim besides the blue pickup truck that sells excellent shrimp tacos and sandwiches! Taxi to the museum will cost $7USD. Have a great vaca!:)

How about the taxi from the museum to a beach and then from the beach back downtown again?

The Mr. Sanchos debacle has left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't want to go there. I'd like to just spend a few hours on a beach as well without obligation. It does seem like many of them are snorkeling beaches.

Playa Calaita and Sunset Beach are near town. Playa Calaita is more of the local's beach. There's a walkway from town to it. Life guard for swimming and average snorkeling no water toys but shady areas and vendors around for drinks and stuff. Bring you own beach stuff. Sunset Beach is just a little further down and next to where the catamerans are.

 

For breakfast, no sure how good the food at the musuem is but try La Choza on Avenidas 10. Then go to Casa Denis in the downtown Plaza for lunch outside. Or reverse if you'd like they are both close to the Museum, a couple of blocks or so. I also recommend for people hwo enjoy trying local places and love taqueria, to go to Los Otates on Avendia 15 and Calle 3 Sur for an open air mainly locals place.

 

From Puerta Maya and the Pier to downtown is $6 for up to 4 passengers. Around town is $5. So you may find yourself spending $12-$24 depending upon where you go. Be advised that taxi drivers do get paid by some restaurants to steer passengers to their places by saying such and such a spot has closed or is no good. Don't bite.

Go here and look up the beaches and locations. The ones with showers and lockers may have beach towels. The public beaches for locals probably not.

You could also buy a "cheap" beach towel at a local shop and then leave it in the restroom when you leave the beach.

Don't rule out the museum! It is just gorgeous sitting in the shaded, fanned open air on the top floor looking out on the water. We had a early afternoon snack and margaritas up there last November, and it was good.

Here's another vote for the Museo for breakfast. In December, the temp was just right, food excellent and the view watching the cruise ships come in was nice.

Does the Museum serve lunch?

If so, how is the food @ lunch?

 

Heading back to Cozumel in November.

Planning on visiting the museum,

and perhaps will plan the visit around lunchtime.
