poss Posted July 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Fairmont Waterfront or Westin Bayshore? Which is easier to get to the airport from and perhaps less expensive for that trip? Are they about equidistant? I'm trying to decide which post-cruise hotel to book. (Both those hotels look very inviting, each for different reasons.) And is it really true that for a noon flight (to the States) one must leave one's hotel at 9:00? Thanks for info.
orchid72 Posted July 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Neither one, really. They are both downtown. The Fairmont waterfront is across the street from Canada Place pier, while the Westin Bayshore is closer to Stanley Park. Both hotels are also serviced by the Airporter (a bus that will take you to the airport), which costs $14/person. Cab fare will cost you about $40. For a noon flight to the US, it is recommended you get to the airport 2 hrs before your flight for a stress-free check-in/boarding. Therefore, to be on the safe side, leave downtown no later than 9:15 - it takes about 30-45 minutes to get to the airport depending on traffic. Here is the airporter's schedule: http://www.yvrairporter.com/xPdf/Schedule2009.pdf
poss Posted July 2, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Thank you so much-- the info is very helpful. (I'd been told about $25 for taxi, but no big deal. I assume that taxi takes less time than bus?)
Urban trekker Posted July 2, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2009 This map should help you see the distance between the hotels and downtown Vancouver in general. http://www.hotelsbythepier.com/index2.php?pier=vancouver-canada-place Cheers Dennis
scottbee Posted July 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Thank you so much-- the info is very helpful. (I'd been told about $25 for taxi, but no big deal. I assume that taxi takes less time than bus?) I would imagine the taxi fare would be a little more than that, in the 30-35 range, but yes, the taxi is faster than the bus. However, if you arrive after Labour Day, there will be a new subway, which goes from YVR to downtown (1 block from Canada Place/Fairmont), which will be even faster than a taxi, and cost somewhere between 4-6$ (they still haven't told us)
poss Posted July 2, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Thanks for continued info. We're in our late 70's, will have a certain amount of luggage, so ease of transfer is important. Our subway days are pretty much over, at least when we're hauling stuff. Nice idea to have that option though.
Putterdude Posted July 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2009 A cab fare from the Fairmont Waterfront should run about $32 or so and about $3 or 4 dollars more from the Bayshore. You need a full 2 hours to clear US cutoms and secruity at the airport and it is a 35 min drive out to the airport in the morning....so a 9 am departure from your hotel won't be to early at all and if it is a morning where there are a number of cruise ships in town you may want to think in terms of 8:30am.
