PGPOP is better than Harrah's?

My PCC has me booked under the PGPOP discount (Star, Mexico, Bal GTY), even though I asked for the Harrah's diamond tier discount. He says PGPOP is a better value because I'll get the Pepsi card.

Anybody with comments about how PGPOP can be better than Harrah's diamond...or do you think, maybe, there is a PGPOP booking promotion he's trying to win....

After booking our cruise through a PCC at NCL I seen the Harrahs discount mentioned on the website so I asked our PCC if we would qualify. What she told me was that if I wanted the Harrahs discount I would have to cancel the cruise I booked through her and call a special 800 number to book. I didn't do it because I figured it wouldn't be worth it for us as we just play quarter slots. Not living close to Vegas or Reno we only make it there once or twice a year.

So your PCC probably didn't want to lose the booking. I'd call the 800 number listed on the NCL website under preferred partners and see how much it would save you and if the difference is a lot you could always cancel the one booking with the PCC and book though the casino 800 number as long as it was before final payment was due.

You do not go through CAS for the Harrah's discount. I am speaking from experience. Right now I have a couple cruises booked. Some through CAS and some with my diamond status with Harrah's. Some of the reps at NCL even get confused over this but if you call CAS they will tell you to call back the regular number. I have had reps with NCL tell me they need to transfer me to CAS and when I tell them no they are to handle it they act confused, put me on hold and come back and ask what they can do for me. The Harrah's discount is very good everytime I have used it. One time it was better than the 17% you get with CAS. I would be surprised if the soda discount even comes close to the Harrah's discount. Also, the amount of the discount is dependent upon what type of card holder you are. My son is a gold card holder and he received a 7% discount on his ocean view room. Not sure what the silver will get you but on one of my cruises my diamond status gave me a 25% discount and waiting in my room was the free drink card for the casino.

Although I have no experience booking a cruise with a Harrah's discount, I find it hard to believe that you get a better discount booking with a Pepsi discount than you would Harrah's. We have booked our last three cruises through CAS and I am VERY confident that we got a better deal than we would have with a Pepsi discount. As far as the free soda card, you actually get a card through CAS/Harrah's that will get you free soda and/or free alcoholic beverages in the casino. I think you need to call Harrah's or who ever it is you call to book through them and see what kind of a discount you would get with them.

To get the Harrah's discount you should call a different reservation phone number...NOT the regular NCL reservation number and NOT the Casinos at Sea number.

The line for the Harrah's program is 1-877-742-9519, as stated on both the Harrah's and NCL Web sites.

The current discount percentages by Harrah's Total Rewards tier, as listed on both the Harrah's and NCL sites are:

Seven Stars: 30%

Diamond: 20

Platinum 10

Gold 5

If I were a betting man, and of course I am, I'd wager that the advice the OP got from the PCC was incorrect.

When I posted the above, I neglected to mention another fact relevant to the OP's inquiry: The Pepsi promotion doesn't provide a discount on the cruise fare...you get free soda cards and that's all... another reason why the PCC's advice was all wet.

So...let's do a little math...let's say the cruise fare for two was $3,000. A 20% Harrah's Diamond Total Rewards discount comes to $600, while two free one week soda cards are worth what...$60?...$80...$100 tops? Pretty simple to figure which is better, isn't it.

OH MY GOSH..OP..if that is all you get is a free soda card with the Pepsi promo, the cancel that and re-book with Harrah's immediately. There is no doubt you will get a better discount.

Silver Harrah's card? Since when have they added a silver total reward's card? And did your son with the gold card receive a drink card also for the casino?

I did try to press the point that I wanted to book under my Harrah's Diamond tier discount, and he pressed back that the Pepsi promotion was better for me....don't understand why. I've booked through this PCC using my Harrah's discount in the past and that drink card is WAY more fun than a Pepsi sticker.

I did not get a discount at all, compared to prices on NCL.com....maybe $20, but certainly not 20%

I'll try another route and see what happens. Thanks for the support. I knew I could count on you guys (and gals):)

The poster meant a platinum card, the mid-way card in the Harrahs total rewards program between Gold and Diamond (with 7 stars being their ultra card)

NJHorseman (or anyone else): are the Harrahs' percentage discounts being offered only against the published prices? Against the prices quoted on ncl.com? Can they be combined with other discounts? Thanks.

The terms and conditions state the discounts can't be combined with any other offer.

I have to believe the discounts are offered against the prices quoted on ncl.com, simply because in most cases they would not be a discount at all if offered against published brochure prices.

Apparently, no, they are not quoted against the prices on NCL, but rather against the standard rate....to get the Harrah's "discount", I'll have to pay more than NCL.com prices.

According to my PCC, to get my Harrah's diamond tier 20% "discount", I'll have to pay $88.40 more than the prices quoted on NCL.com.

What's up with that?
