gapopes5 Posted July 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I don't mind drinking water because I have to drink alot of water anyway, but would love to have something besides water while on a cruise. I know juice is free, but being diabetic I need the low sugar juice. Does anyone know how much the fountain card is?
Traveler353 Posted July 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Un-sweet tea and coffee are free. As are several other juices.
Froufie Posted July 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I believe the fountain card is about $50 for the week (including tax and gratuities). If you buy it once you leave the US I believe there is no tax and if you purchase the next day the cost is pro-rated. Not sure if they have low sugar juices on the ship but you can drink Diet Coke to your heart's content....!!! Other 'free' (cold) drinks on the Lido deck include lemonade and iced tea - but I think both are pre-sweetened.
DocF Posted July 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I am an insulin dependent diabetic and on a pump, so if I want something laced with sugar, I just crank in a couple of extra units.:p I gather that you are a Type 2 diabetic and use either diet or pills to control your disease. The Lido deck dispenses free coffee (which is usually very good), lousy iced tea made from concentrate, lemonade (full of sugar or high fructose corn syrup) apple and orange juice. If I want iced tea, I brew my own as hot water and tea bags are available. I brew tea for my wife too as she hates the concentrate even worse than I do. Good luck; good cruising! BlueJacketsFan1 Posted July 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2009 From what I have read an adult soda card is $6 per-day plus the 15% tip. There is also unsweeten tea at the buffet area.
Hector's Mom Posted July 8, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I am an insulin dependent diabetic and on a pump, so if I want something laced with sugar, I just crank in a couple of extra units.:p Doc Ditto, I've been on a pump for many years. :D Did you notice that you used more insulin during your trips? I emptied my pump much faster than normal!! Forgot to change my basal back quick enough, had a few days of reactions after... oops. I drank a lot of the tea, definitely not my favorite, but it worked out. Many people, me included on our next cruise, take Crystal Light singles to use with the water. yesterdaystime Posted July 8, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I'm a diabetic too and other than coffee, unsweet tea and water there isn't anything else that is free to choose from. I'm not much of a soda drinker, but a shot of JD makes the diet coke taste much better!:D
gapopes5 Posted July 8, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Thanks for the info. I forgot about taking crystal lite. I just called Carnival and they said I could bring some drinks with me. I'm glad for that. Diet coke and nasty tea get old. :)
cruzngma Posted July 8, 2009 #9 Share Posted July 8, 2009 they also have diet sprite/sprite zero. We bring drinks as well as the crystal lite powers.
PixieKGirl Posted July 8, 2009 #10 Share Posted July 8, 2009 My father is diabetic also and we're taking him with us on a Christmas cruise. He drinks diet tonic water (with his Vodka). Do the bars on the ships offer diet tonic water?
davy jones Posted July 8, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 8, 2009 If nothing on the ship strikes your fancy, you can bring aboard something to your liking. (Non alcoholic, or course......I don't want to condone booze smuggling)
Christina M. Posted July 9, 2009 #12 Share Posted July 9, 2009 My DH is diabetic so for our next cruise we have gotten suger free drink mix to put in his water bottle. They come in little pkg for the water bottles and just fill the water bottle on the Lido deck. Good luck:)

Sometimes they have cranberry juice which is low in sugar. I also drink a lot of iced tea. It comes unsweetened and tastes pretty good.
