Southern Caribbean in November 2009

Hi,

I'm going on a 14 night cruise/Southern Caribbean on Sea Princess, at the beginning of November 2009.

Does anyone have any info on how the weather would be around that time of year, is it clear of hurricane season at that time?

Also with regards to excursions/trips etc. what's the best approach to arranging these. Is it safe to leave them all to when we get on board or at each port and just see what we decide doing then or is it better to book things up before we get on the cruise?

Thanks

Hurricane season runs until 11/30, so you'll be in it. I believe it's rare to have them in November. We've cruised end of November early December for the past 6 years I think. Haven't run into one yet. Last year we couldn't get into Princess Cay because of high seas because it's a tendering port.

Except for that, we've always had perfect Caribbean weather and warm water at every port.

Have fun on your cruise!

Regarding excursions, you'll get hundreds of different opinions. We always book onboard. There are folks who always book ahead of time because there's a chance it'll be full by the time you get on the ship. And there are lots of individual private tours.

Best thing to do is look on the Ports of Call board under Caribbean and click on which islands you're visiting. You'll find lots of posts with individual experiences.

You're less likely to run into hurricane weather in the Southern Caribbean (rather than Western) that time of year. Cruised a couple times in early Nov. in either Eastern & Southern Caribbean. Only thing we noticed is that there is more rain than normal. Seas were fine and not a hurricane in sight. You're hitting the tail end of the season. We most often plan and book excursions in advance. There is limited time in port and we don't want to waste time deciding what to do or leaving it up to fate. If you don't book - at least do some homework so you have some ideas about what you might want to do and what's been recommended. We usually book privately for better tours/price/less crowds - however, depending on the circumstances, we will book ship tours. Sometimes the ship has special arrangements with companies and you can't book privately or if there are short port times we might book a ship tour to ensure we're back on time. Enjoy!
