Portofino Question

In the summer months, you can catch ferries to the Cinque Terre or go inland to Santa Margarita and catch the train from there to the Cinque Terre towns. Rick Steves' Italy 2009 provides some good information on those transportation options.

Our port day in Portofino last month was too short for that, so we chose first to take the hike/walk, mostly uphill, toward the lighthouse, visiting the lovely church and then the Castle Brown with its great picture postcard views, finally wending our way down the gently sloping path of its extensive gardens with switchbacks with gorgeous views all the way back down to the port, where we just wandered and shopped a bit before catching our tender.
