mandltullis Posted December 23, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2004 Hi, We are cruising for the first time without transfers from the cruiseline. When we get to the pier in Miami will there be people there to take our luggage? If yes, how will we know we are giving our luggage to the correct people? Once we give our luggage to someone will it miraculously appear in our stateroom? Thanks for the help!
jean-lynd Posted December 23, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2004 Yes, there will be porters there to take your bags and they will show up in your cabin. It is appropriate to tip them when you give them your bags. It is a very painless process. I hope this helps!
slyster Posted December 23, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2004 Hi there....when you get to the pier, there will be porters available to take your bags and make sure they get on the ship. There are tipping guidelines for the porters ($1-2 a bag). They don't actually work for the cruiseline, but they work for the pier. You don't have the option of taking your own bags on board so you have to give them your bags. Don't worry, they take good care of them. Your bags will be brought to your cabin (normally left outside your cabin) sometime in the late afternoon, evening time. Hope this helps :-)
mrtravel123 Posted December 23, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2004 When I travel via air, I generally don't check in any luggage. I usually just take 2 bags with me (a black rollerbag) and a small backpack (or camera case). Can I do the same with RC? Will they expect me to give them my black rollerbag? Thanks! hstrybuf Posted December 23, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 23, 2004 You luggage will be delivered to your cabin as long as you have filled out and attached your luggage tags with the correct ship name and cabin number. All luggage is screened. I don't see why you couldn't take both pieces on with you.
mandltullis Posted December 23, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted December 23, 2004 Thanks for the help. I think my hubby was concerned that we might hand our bags over to someone and never see them again.

Sheffie Posted December 24, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 24, 2004 Mandltullis, one thing to remember is that you may not see your bags till near dinner time; be sure to take your swimming suit and anything else you may want to change into just in case. Have a great cruise!
banderboo Posted December 24, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2004 mrtravel, you can take the small carryon size luggage with you but IMO it's more of a pain than it's worth. The check in area can get crowded and you'll find that if your rolling a bag around it will get accidently kicked, knocked over, etc not to mention having to drag it through yet another security check point. cruzincurt Posted December 24, 2004 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2004 We always drive to our cruises so dropping off the luggage is no problem. In fact, I would be more secure knowing I personally handed by luggage to the porters at the luggage bins than trusting the cruise transfer to put my stuff on the bus, take it back off and get it to the right ship! All of this happening without me watching where my luggage goes. Since the activity is busy, and you are so excited about the cruise, I actually once couldn't remember if I took my suitcase out of the trunk after I took my wife's out of the back seat. (Senior moment) But I did and it showed up around 3:00pm at the room.
