Ken076 Posted July 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2009 We'll be spending one night pre-cruise in September. Which hotel would you recommend? The Pan Pacific or Fairmont Waterfront? Thank you so much. We're sailing Diamond Princess out of Vancouver 29 August this year. We just switched to Fairmont Waterfront as they're having a 7-Day Sale with noticeably reduced rates (you can additionally get 3rd nite free if you stay 3 nites). Both are nice, (pricey) Hotels in a great location; Pan Pacific is atop the cruise terminal, Fairmont is just off the cruise Terminal. ken
Mombak Posted July 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2009 First let me preface this by saying that I've never actually STAYED at either hotel. The one advantage I have is that I'm from Vancouver, so hopefully that counts for something... Given the choice between the Fairmont Waterfront and the Pan Pacific (and all things being equal) I'd choose the Pan Pacific with hardly a hesitation. Granted, they are both very nice and you won't be disappointed with either of them, but I feel the Pan Pacific is just THAT much nicer (the location, the views, etc.). If you have specific questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them as best I can.
sunshinevancouver Posted July 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2009 Both hotels are high end and right by the cruise terminal, just make sure your ship is actually leaving from the cruise ship terminal and not docking at "Ballentyne" the industrial terminal sometimes used by cruise ships We had a lovely lunch at the Pan Pacific last month looking out over the inlet and over to the North Shore Mountains and Stanley Park watching the float planes The Waterfront has a resident dog that you can take for walk if you are missing your pet Don't think you can go wrong with either choice if your room is high enough and has a water view Welcome to my home town, hope you have a wonderful trip
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2009 They are both nice and perfectly located. I happen to prefer the Pan Pacific so all things being relatively close on price I would go with the Pan Pacific. Keith
ell52 Posted July 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2009 As well as being from Vancouver, I've stayed, dined and attended functions at both hotels. Both are very, very nice. That being said, if the price is comparable, I'd stay at the Pan Pacific.
TrentS Posted July 24, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2009 I've stayed at the Pan Pacific several times and love it. Great hotel, great location, spectacular views!
love2cruiseseattle Posted July 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2009 I have stayed at both hotels and you will NOT go wrong with either one, I would probably pick the one you are able to get a better rate at.
adwalsh Posted July 24, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted July 24, 2009 Thank you to everyone for your responses. Based on "majority" vote, looks like we will go with the Pac Pacific. Take care!
doublebzz Posted July 25, 2009 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2009 Neither. We spent 4 nights post cruise in Vancouver in June. We went on Priceline and got the 4* Hyatt for $65 a night. We found the hotel staff and amenities top draw. The location is absolutely central to everything. In my view the much touted waterfront area has little to offer besides an IMAX theater. The cab from the Hyatt down to the pier shouldn't be more than $10.
DaveOKC Posted July 25, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2009 We heard that there is construction going on at the Pan Pacific so to be safe we booked the Fairmont. Perhaps someone here can confirm or deny this construction? DaveOKC
Urban trekker Posted July 25, 2009 #12 Share Posted July 25, 2009 Yes there is construction going on - not really the Pan Pacific but the adjoining Canada Place and old trade and convention and west side promenade which is being upgraded to better blend in with the new convention center - this area will be the international media center for the 2010 Olympic Games so is being converted for that purpose - gosh is it really only about 200 days away - there is construction everywhere here in the inner city - some Olympic related to other due to our growth the last few years - what many people don't realize is the the downtown core is now home to more than 110,000 people - a city within a city and the need for constant infrastructure improvements seems to be never ending. Have a good weekend everyone. Cheers Dennis
