STENDHAL HOTEL in ROME? & TRANSFER to port?

we're going one day early for our cruise and will be staying in rome. we have stayed in the bernini bristol years ago and loved it but this time our travel agent recommended the stendhal hotel. has anyone stayed there?

what did you think? it looks nice on the internet but would like your reviews.

ALSO - if we don't want to take the train to civitavecchia and don't want to take the royal carib transfer (expensive) - can you recommend a less expensive transfer service there for just myself and my husband?

thanks!

We stayed at the Stendhal last October for 3 nights and had a wonderful time.

The location was great for being able to walk to a number of sites and good restaurants nearby (but do be careful of the overly touristy ones). The subway is just a couple blocks away too.

The hotel itself is very nice, clean and the staff was friendly. The breakfast each morning is simple, but good with good service.

Typical of European Hotels, the rooms were fairly small, but well furnished. The elevator is just slightly bigger then a phone booth and only holds 2 people and it helps if your friendly.

We would easily stay there again, but generally try to stay at a new hotel each visit, just to experience more of the city.
