Suit Coat for Casual Nite

My dh has a tux for the 2 dress up nites, but for the smart casual nite, does he actually have 2 wear a suitcoat:confused: . He has dress sweaters and shirts, & a couple of dress pants, is that ok?

Even beyond that. On our Majesty of the Seas cruise, quite a few men were wearing sport coats on formal night. From what I've read, on Serenade of the Seas, it'll be quite different, with very few men going without a sport coat on smart casual night.
