Celebrity Cruise tour passengers in Denali Park

We went on a post cruise tour with Celebrity in summer 2008. During our trip we stayed at the Alyeska Resort, Anchorage Marriott, McKinley Village Lodge at Denali (2 nights), and Pike's Waterfront Lodge in Fairbanks. When we received our cruisetour info it indicated several possible options for hotels at each stop, so you don't know exactly which hotel you'll be staying at until very close to the trip date. All the accommodations were satisfactory in our opinion, with Alyeska being awesome.

We did the Celebrity Millennium Cruisetour southbound July 13-25, 2009.

The first night in Denali we spent at McKinley Lodge which was not great. Our room looked out into the parking lot, no A/C (it was warm), just a fan in the window. But wildfires caused smoke, so had to shut windows. Very unpleasant, disappointed, almost like roughing it. Next night, Talkeetna Lodge which was better, still no A/C but cooler with ceiling fan and another fan. A step up from the night before. View of Mt. Mc Kinley if it hadn't been obscured that day. Third night at Alyeska Resort, very fancy lodge, top of the line, unbelievable first class all the way.

Extreme difference in lodging- from almost like camping to an exclusive resort.

P.S. A/C is not typical in Denali area as usually cool weather and not needed.

We took the Celebrity Land tour northbound from July 3 to the l0th. Our first night we stayed at Seward Windsong Lodge which was okay but very noisy as we were on the bottom floor and had people walking and rolling suitcases over our head, as well as a baby crying. The next night we stayed at the Marriott in Anchorage and that was a beautiful hotel with an excellent view of the bay. The next night was Talkneeta Lodge which was okay but had no air conditioning and we had record high temperatures. Fortunately we found a fan and needed that. The location was not that convenient as you had to take a shuttle bus which dropped you off in a parking lot about a block from the main street. The next two nights we stayed at McKinley Lodge in Denali, same problem with hot temperatures and no air conditioning, just a fan. We did not enjoy the 8 hour tour of Denali Park, sitting in reconditioned school buses driving on a dusty road. The only wildlife we saw was off in the distance, guess that was the point of the tour, to show us nature. We were given boxed lunches which were not in the least bit healthy. Some kind of white bun with salami in a package, a bottle of water, and chips. To top it off, someone stole my lunch from the rack over our heads, no great loss. Some of the people on the tour loved it but I did not. The next two nights we stayed at Pike's Waterfront Lodge in Fairbanks, where the temperature hit a record 95F. Fortunately that lodge had air conditioning. You had to pay for the shuttle bus to take you into town but we had tours booked so didn't use the service. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, had great guides, and were totally taken care of.
