dinoman Posted August 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2009 I'm thinking of going to Alaska on HAL Zuiderdam in May 2010, however I see most of the Cat F OV rooms are on the Main Deck, which is the lowest of the ship, and I worry that the glacier view would be not be as good as those on the upper decks. Could anyone who stayed in an OV room on main deck share their views, please?
jtl513 Posted August 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2009 I wouldn't plan on viewing glaciers from my cabin, even if I had a verandah, so IMO the view from there doesn't matter. If you happen to be a Main Deck cabin when there's an announcement of something worth seeing it's just two decks up to the Upper Promenade, and you can go to either side. If you have more notice of something to be seen - like glaciers - you really should be out on a forward deck someplace. :)
jmps Posted August 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2009 I agree with jtl513 on glacier viewing etc. However, the lower deck window will be really good to see dolphins that swim along the ship. We were watching some from the windows just ouside the casino. You are really up close.
RuthC Posted August 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2009 I agree with the others---planned viewing should be from an outside deck. You'll get better, more sweeping views from outside. However, for quick viewing from your cabin (you do have to change for dinner, after all), Main Deck is very nice. The view will be at an angle more like you are at ground level (which, essentially, you are). You will feel dwarfed as you look out from there.
