Hershey13 Posted August 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Greetings Can anyone tell me how often cruises get cancelled? We have reviewed several blogs about cancelled cruises and got curious.

happy cruzin Posted August 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Not often. But that being said....we have had one cancelled - the Liberty - so that the ship could enter drydock. We were booked almost a year out so it was not that big a deal - my CVS helped us move our booking to another sailing.
salty dingo Posted August 10, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2009 It generally happens for two reasons: The ship is chartered. This will typically be done a year or more in advance. It's just too difficult to displace passengers when the ship is more fully booked. Unforeseen mechanical problems which prevent the ship from functioning properly and require a stay in drydock. This is also fairly rare, due to the great expense. I don't have any statistics, but I think it is extremely unlikely any particular cruise will be cancelled. Rare Essiesmom Posted August 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2009 They will also cancel cruises when they need to change the itinerary, such as pulling the ships out of the Med., or rerouting for Swine Flu, and Fantasy had to do longer cruises to get to non-Mexico ports.
