Cruise Cancellations

It generally happens for two reasons:

  1. The ship is chartered. This will typically be done a year or more in advance. It's just too difficult to displace passengers when the ship is more fully booked.
  2. Unforeseen mechanical problems which prevent the ship from functioning properly and require a stay in drydock. This is also fairly rare, due to the great expense.

I don't have any statistics, but I think it is extremely unlikely any particular cruise will be cancelled.

They will also cancel cruises when they need to change the itinerary, such as pulling the ships out of the Med., or rerouting for Swine Flu, and Fantasy had to do longer cruises to get to non-Mexico ports. EM
