Jazzman15 Posted August 11, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2009 What is the best means of transportation to go from ship to Peggy's Cove and Titanic Cemetary? we though we could then get dropped off in the area of the Citadel and walk to the MMA, Citadel and Public Gardens and then back to ship. thanks
maryann ns Posted August 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2009 I would say either hire a driver or rent a car. Driving in Halifax should not challenge anyone from NJ! You can plan it all on Google Maps. Yes for downtown you should ditch the car and walk. Check here http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=32 for help, and do a search at the top of this page.

Maryann, I like the way you put that about driving in Halifax not challenging anyone from NJ. Leads me to believe you hae driven in our lovely State! Would either a taxi or a bus be better to go to PC and Cemetary? What should I expect to pay for a taxi to go to both places from the pier and appx how long should i allow for both places? Thanks for the info!
maryann ns Posted August 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Jazzman 15, it is a long drive to Peggys - depending on traffic maybe an hour. I have never timed it. There is no public transit to there, so you either rent a car, hire a car and driver, take a private tour, or take a ship's tour. I would allow an hour for Peggys, but you could spend less. I have not been to the cemetery with the Titanic graves. However the display of Titanic artifacts at the maritime Museum right on the Halifax waterfront is very interesting. You can get to the cemetery on Transit, but I have no idea how. I take taxis very seldom but one from downtown to my son's home further out than the cemetery is $25 or more. Yes I have been in NJ. ............... Ikbert I would choose Peggys over a harbour tour. You can eat lobster at Murphy's restaurant on your own if you wish. I love Halifax Harbour and it is considered the second best harbour in the world after Sydney, Australia, but that is for shipping. It is scenic; I was out on it for the Tall Ships in July when a group of us chartered a boat. However Peggys Cove is rightly famous. If it were me, I would rent a car and drive along coastal roads to Peggys. Then go back to Halifax and spend some time if you have any left on the waterfront. maryann ns Posted August 13, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2009 If you don't want to rent a car then Halifaxtaxitours would fill the bill, though for a price. I think I will start to keep a file of NS information. Being local, I don't use tour companies, but I love to help others out. Often the best information on these boards is from visitors who have 'been there done that' before you rather than from locals.
Mr&MrsBee Posted August 24, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2009 Mary Ann NS Thank for the tip on seeing Peggy's Cove. Guess you had some ugly weather. I saw on the news Peggy's Cove in the storm.
