Hotel daily rates Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Do any of the hotels by the airport in Vancouver give daily rates? We're just looking for a room to store baggage and freshen up before a late flight home from the cruise?

The Fairmont Vancouver Airport (AT the airport terminal) does.

Ordinarily it might be tough to find a daily rate but with tourism in a downturn it may be worthwhile to contact some of the major hotels in the downtown area which would be better for you to leave bags if your plans include touring in the city. I would suggest the Pan Pacific and Fairmont's Waterfront Hotel which are close to Canada Place otherwise Fairmont's Hotel Vancouver or the Hyatt Regency might be good bets.

Here's another option:

1. Store your luggage at CDS baggage at Canada Place or at YVR. If you plan on staying downtown for most of your day, maybe check with them to see if they would deliver/transport your luggage from downtown to the airport to save you from having to lug it around with you back to YVR (I think someone on this board had mentioned they did do this for them so it's worthwhile to check it out, IMO).

2. See if you are eligible to use the pay-per-use Premium Passenger Lounge to freshen up. I've not used this particular service myself, but used lounges similar to this in Asia and they have worked really well for me.

How can I find out how much the loung would cost?

Out of curiosity, I just gave them a call. The lounge is available for international (but not US) departures only. The charge is $35pp and includes use of lounge, open buffet lunch, beverages, shower and change facilities.

Do you have to book this in advance or can you just go there when you get to the airport?

My experience with other lounge is that I have been able to just walk in. Not sure about this one because I have never been.

Here's their website: http://www.plaza-ppl.com/vc_en/index.php

Looks like you can book online. Think it's best to contact them and ask questions because I don't think a lot of the locals on this board have first-hand knowledge of this particular facility.

I didn't notice before, but they also have a domestic lounge as well as international (previously, I only called the International lounge). You can either book online or walk-up on the day.

Here's a link to a discount coupon you can use for the walk-up:

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Big difference between Intl Lounge and US Departure Lounge. If the OP is flying to the USA, they need to use a Lounge in the pre-clearance area, and the only two I know of are AC's and AS's. That being said, AS offer day passes for $30, but I don't think the YVR one has showers.

Airside, there are three wings to YVR, Domestic, Intl and US, and the lounge will be in one of those areas. Note you cannot get in and out of the US wing as you pre-clear US C&I and are in bond.

If you're flying non-stop to JFK on the CX/Cathay Pacific Flight, you actually leave from the Intl wing, so look for a lounge in the international section (it's one of only two US bound flights to leave from the Intl section).

If you're flying via another point, you'll leave from the US departure area, and will need to find a lounge in the US Departure wing (such as the AC or AS lounges)

I stated in my first reply that it is NOT for US departures, according to the woman I spoke to on the phone. She was at the International lounge. I'm sure she meant for flights having to pre-clear US Customs at YVR.

Scott is right in that certain airlines to the US do not pre-clear US customs. They go through the International security check point instead. In which case, you would be able to use the lounge. My son flew Cathay Pacific to JFK out of the International area. You need to check with your own airline or look at your ticket

Here is the link to the YVR page with phone numbers for both the Domestic and International lounges.

If you are indeed flying with Cathay and are going to leave from Intl departures, then you are in luck. The lounge is in post-security in Intl departures, and it has shower facilities. They are open from 0900 hrs to 0200 hrs.

Sorry if you misunderstood. I was only speaking of the new lounge facilities mentioned in Orchid's post where she was talking about this --> http://www.yvr.ca/guide/newservices.asp

We are flying Cathay Pacific to JFK. Would we be able to arrive at the lounge at 4:00 even if our flight doesn't leave until 10.30?

The lounge is located after security. So it would mean checking in first. I doubt you'd be able to check in that early. You need to check directly with Cathay Pacific for the earliest check in time.

However, even if you could, it would mean being at the airport for 6 1/2 hours! Once you check in and clear security, you cannot come back out (i.e. no in and outs allowed).

Best to contact the lounge for this because they may have a limit on how long you can stay there.

And as Ell52 pointed out, the lounge is post-security so you will not be allowed to leave the area again.

So check with your airline how early you can check in. There are some airlines that won't let you check in too early.
