Is anyone familiar with the Miami/southern FL area?

Nobody has mentioned the Miami Zoo. We are spending a few days post-cruise in October, and I was thinking the zoo might be a nice family outing. Any thoughts?

The zoo is great (okay; I'm a docent there and not totally objective, but it's the truth), and by October the weather should be perfect for it. It's toward the south, so you could stay in the southern area and visit such places as the Coral Castle, Schnebly winery in the Homestead area, the upper Keys (such as Key Largo).

Years ago we rented a car and drove from Miami to Key West. Don't know the distance, but it seemed we drove for hours. Also to some of you native Floridians: is there a place to get a twelve pack of lemonade in Coconut Grove? We are staying near Cocowalk.
