When the boat is bee-bopping

Recommended Posts

On a cruise to Alaska, our ship went 100 miles up the Columbia River to Portland. The Capt. and the rookie Customs Agent had words about the ship serving FREE alcohol to the various city fathers that came aboard for a party.

The agent allowed a certain number of bottles to be marked and after the party, the ship wold pay duty on the amount consumed. The Capt. [3 most senior Captain on the world's oceans] thought the agent was being obtuse.

Watching the 6 foot 6 inch leather weathered faced Capt. and the rosy cheeked 5 foot 1 inch Customs Agent arguing "nose to nose" was something to see.:D

When we cast off to leave, we were approximately one half inch away from the dock and 100 miles INLAND when the Capt., staring down at the agent from the bridge wing, turned the PA system to high and announced that the casino was Open! Just slightly early, 103 miles early, less an inch.
