yearbook Posted August 19, 2009 #1 Posted August 19, 2009 Can anyone tell me if there is good shopping at the actual port itself at Cartagena or if I have to spend my money in town? Also, are good quality handicrafts to be found at Los Bovedas or is it all junk?
Putterdude Posted August 27, 2009 #2 Posted August 27, 2009 The port area is very industrial and there is no shopping there. I am sure that if you spent some serious time time at Los Bovedas you would find some items that appealed to you but we were kind of rushed for time and what we saw was more of the t-shirt variety.
cruisingallover Posted September 1, 2009 #3 Posted September 1, 2009 Pierino Gallo Centre is supposed to have nice shops for souveniers, jewels and coffee.
Pimienta Posted October 20, 2009 #4 Posted October 20, 2009 "Pierino Gallo Centre is supposed to have nice shops for souveniers, jewels and coffee." They certainly do! We just got back last week from Cartagena. There is a coffee/gift shop, Mister Emerald and a souvenir shop on the second floor. They have air conditioning! Many, many street vendors and small shops on the first level. Beautiful ladies in colorful costumes to pose in a photo with you for $1.00 US. We had fun. Karen
yearbook Posted October 27, 2009 Author #5 Posted October 27, 2009 I appreciate them. I enjoy finding great crafts hand made by people in the country visited rather than something made in China these days. Not in the market for more jewelry. I am hoping for something "native."
jkeller527 Posted November 4, 2009 #6 Posted November 4, 2009 I was expecting something at the pier and other than Juan Valdez there is nothing. One small liquor store as well. Go to one of the shopping areas. Prices were very good but not as good as costa rica and panama.
Konagal Posted November 11, 2009 #7 Posted November 11, 2009 Has anyone been to the Dungeons for shopping. Is it pretty tacky or is there really something to buy there?
GTJ Posted November 15, 2009 #8 Posted November 15, 2009 Has anyone been to the Dungeons for shopping. Is it pretty tacky or is there really something to buy there? As with most tourist areas it is mostly tacky, but if you're looking for souvenir of your visit you'll likely find something there. More impressive with Cartagena is the architecture and streetscapes.
cruiser620 Posted November 15, 2009 #9 Posted November 15, 2009 The "Dungeons" shopping area has many many little shops. Yes, some of them are the typical tourist "junk", but we were surprised to find several that had really interesting and unique items and quality crafts. We saw some wonderful artwork and ceramics.
m steve Posted November 16, 2009 #10 Posted November 16, 2009 but usually only find "made in China" in all the ports.
